2004 VUE 3.5L
2000 L-Series 3.0L Wagon
Default Accessory Belt change - lw2 V6 3.0 litre

Wife's 2000 wagon had to be towed home after her shift yesterday. Sounded like the accessory belt slipping bad.

Today I found the belt tensioner was completely melted, therefore no tension on the belt and no charging the vehicle.

When I went to replace the belt I found it was surrounded by a motor mount. Is there a magic way to change this belt without having to remove the mount?

Seems ridiculous to design such a thing in this fashion.

There must be an easier way to do this.

Any input is appreciated.

Thank you.

No way to do it without lifting the engine up off of the engine mount. If you use the oil pan to lift the engine make sure that you spread the load across the pan, IE piece of wood. Service manual does not reccomend lifting the engine by the oil pan for risk of cracking it.

Thanks for the quick reply ssicarman. The service manual does not even mention this, just states remove the old belt.

If I support the engine from below it is possible to remove the engine mount and clear with the new belt or does the engine have to be removed?

Has anyone done a "how to" on the subject?

Thanks again.

You only need to unbolt the mount from the engine to get the space so that you can slip the belt through the space.

U rock ssicarman!

I found a how to in the "how to" section. I need to study up on the search aspect of this site.

I will be doing the engine mount removal and belt replacement prolly next weekend as it needs to be done and weekends are better for car stuff.

Make sure you check the tensioner, Mmain reason on L's for belts meltin is the tensioner bearings failed and the tensioner locked up.

My tensioner was in overall nice shape but bearing was worn. Was able to buy bearing only at Advance Auto Parts for a nice savings over replacing entire tensioner assembly.
