Default Ignition Coils....

This might sound stupid, but how do you disconnect the ignition coils from their backing?

Sorry, it is hot here, and my brain is not working right. I found how to take it off. Precisely, place a flathead screwdriver between the ignition coil and the ignition module, at the bottom, and GENTLY pry it off. Thanks though Rich. Question, if the paint on the outside bar is chipping off, does the coil need to be replaced?

No. Well, it's _possible_ you could get spark jumping to that unpainted part of the coil body. Light it up at night, with as little ambient light as possible. If you see any spark jumping to the scratched-off part, throw some more paint on in.

The paint is NOT an electrical insulator. It is there to prevent corrosion. What prompted you to suspect the coilpacks as a problem to begin with?

It was on the list for possible suspects to my still pending hesitation problem. They didn't look too bad. I cleaned the coils up clean, liberally (sp) put dielectic (sp) grease, and re-installed. Didn't solve the problem. The only thing was the corner paint was chipped off and it looked rusted underneath.
