Default lime green fluid leak?

AFter I got back from Dr appt today I noticed a bright lime-greenish stain in the snow from where the VUE was parked overnight in my driveway.
There was a dribble pattern that looked like there was a leak as I backed out as well.
Drivability doesn't seem affected at all, but curious if anyone knows what it might be.
Obvious choice is that it's just windsheild washer fluid but I can't remember what flavor I used this time around. Just wanted to ask the question before I forgot but I plan on checking out under the hood tomorrow.

Well, it uses dex-cool orange coolant, so I can rule that out :-P

I had the same thing happen to me the other day . My first thought was antifreeze leaking but the fluids are at the right levels .

It could be the oil from the A/C system. Mine decided to vent all of its refrigerant out into my driveway along with all of the oil about a month in, and it was an oily, greenish substance.

DEX CVT is green. Do you have the vti?????

If so, fix it quick. It appears very sensitive to low fluid levels.

I agree w/ OhioVueBoy, the lubricant in A/C system has a bright green dye in it. I had it leak out some in my VUE as well.

There is a TSB for the problem, somthing involving a defective relief valve on the A/C hoses.

You may want to avoid using any defrost/heat settings that run the A/C until it cn be serviced, as the A/C may now be low on oil.

Your leak is nothing but winshield washer fluid that dribbles down to the bottom of the Vue.So don't worry about it.

Lime green washer fluid?
So why discount our determinations of what his problem is?

Nice.

If his AC compressor or VTI go out because he followed your advice to not worry about it, then where would he be? Pretty mad, I'd say.

y2chuck- Whatever it is, it's probably not supposed to be leaking. Get it figured out ASAP.

If you just filled the washer fluid, and you used green stuff, THEN I'd say you could not worry about it.

Default Re: lime green fluid leak?

I was told at the time that this happened that it was caused by an overfill at the factory, probably attributed to my VUE being a somewhat early build. However, the day mine decided to blow up it was in the mid to upper 90's outside, not in the middle of winter. That is the only thing that makes me wonder, but I'd bet 1,000 posts that it is A/C oil.
MaxSL2 - good point about running without refrigerant. Most GM products are equipped with pressure sensors that will not allow the compressor to engage without sufficient refrigerant - let's hope the variable scroll compressor in the VUE is the same way. Worse comes to worse, you can always unplug the clutch solenoid connector on the compressor until you can get it in to be looked at.

Never heard of lime green windshield washer fluid, only blue. Maybe this is an "up north" thing? My vote goes to a/c oil as well.

Simply ignoring a fluid leak is pretty careless, IMHO.

We have several different colors of washer fluid here. Most colors other than blue are the winter formulas with additives to prevent them from freezing. I think I've seen green, but most non-blue washer fluids seem to be yellow and orange. Hehe, just imagine if you filled up with the yellow stuff and it started to leak on the snow...

Can't say I've ever seen lime green washer fluid, but up here in the frozen north I've seen a darker green anti-bug fluid, and purple, yellow, orange and pink cold climate washer fluids.

I suppose if you mixed the blue normal stuff with the yellow stuff, you might get something close to lime green...

I'd say to assume the worst and hope for the best until you know what it is for sure.

One thing you can do is gather a small sample of it from the snow/ground and put some in a small amount of water. If it mixes with the water, it isn't oil or oil-based lube e.g. the DEXCVT lube.

I use the red stuff in the winter. It was filled with blue stuff when I bought it. Does this mean I get purple?

Lime green does sound unlikely for washer fluid. Unless somebody discarded a half-eaten lime sno-cone under your hood, I would look for a different cause.

Yeah we have green washer fluid up here but it's more of a grass-green colour, not lime-green. I guess it's so people don't get it confused with Prestone antifreeze/coolant.

My VUE had purple washer fluid when I bought it. It stunk really bad too.

My Vue is being fixed as I write this they have not called me back yet . I know for sure the leak is not washer fluid because I had blue fluid in there . Also the leak was coming from the AC compersor side and near the center of the engine compartment . I'll write back tomorrow after I call them to see what the deal is .

Hey MaxSL2 do you know the TSB # so I could give it to the service department at the dealer because they didn't even bother to check for that .

Here in Canada we have green windshield washer. It's rated to -45 celcius vs the standard blue that is rated to -40 celcius.

I wouldn't say that it is lime green though.

I would agree with most in thinking that the green colour you are seeing is the dye from the A/C system.
