Default Need help removing the trim around front courtesy lights.

I am trying to install a cell phone hands-free microphone somewhere near the courtesy light assembly. I would like to remove the entire assembly with the front courtesy lights and sunroof switch. It seems that this should be a simple matter since you should be able to change courtesy light bulbs. Has anybody successfully removed this assembly?

Default Got it!

After several attempts I figured out how to pop off the courtesy light assembly (near the rear view mirror) on the 2004 Vue.

1. DO NOT pull down on the rear edge. After you unsnap the sides and front edge you need to slide the entire assembly forward to release the rear edge.

2. Gently pull down on each side edge to release the clips. One on each side.

3. Pull down the front edge (the edge towards the windshield). This requires more force since there are two clips about 1.5 inches apart near the front edge.

4. Slide the assembly forward to release the rear attachment point.

I will post pictures as part of the cell phone handsfree kit install that I am documenting.

Default Re-install is not easy...

I completed the modification to the courtesy light assembly to accommodate the cell phone microphone. It's even more difficult to re-install the light than it is to remove it. The snap clips on the front edge require a lot of force to push into place. The headliner is not very solid and just flexes when you try to push the clips into place. I finally managed to get the clips to snap in by wedging a screwdriver in above the plastic trim above the headliner while I applied pressure on the trim below the headliner.

If any one has a manual that explains how to change the courtesy lightbulbs I would be curious to know what is says.

Default Confession...

I have a gas heater in the garage. I am not looking forward to seeing the gas bill next month. I am not quite crazy enough to freeze to death installing the cell phone car kit.
