Default Ion Headlight problem - Never seen this before

2005 Ion 4-door, and one headlight is out.

The problem is that it's not the bulb, and the other headlight works properly.

No damage to the front end, no damage to the plug or the wires.

New Sylvania bulb. I also swapped out the good bulb into that headlight, and the good bulb will not light.

Also, the running light in that headlamp also works.

Is there some kind of separate fuse for each headlight on these??

Yes, check both headlamp fuses, labeled LH HDLP 15 A and RH HDLP 15A.

huh. I would never have guessed that there would be two of them.
and so the running light would still run even if the headlight fuse is out?

edit* btw can anyone tell me where the fuse panel is?

this is my daughters car, so I can't hunt around on it right now.

Look under the hood for the main fuse panel.

Update*

It's not the fuses.
Both were clearly not burned out, and I put two new ones in anyway.

And it's not the bulbs. I went through the original one, a brand new GE bulb, and I just put an ebay assembly in there. Also you could see by eye that the bulbs are fine.

So now the question is what else can make just one headlight not come on?

I swapped the light assembly and it still doesn't work.
and I swapped sides with the first one and it worked.
I swapped to a nicer assembly because the old one was fogged up pretty bad.

I commented on the duplicate post already.

But, since this seems to be the Active Thread... Do you have access to a Voltage or Continuity Meter? Seems like you've got a bad connector or broken wire somewhere... You might need to try "Jumping" the Short in the Circuit and Splice into a part that has power.

Since you swapped Assemblies and had power you know the "local" connections (in the Assembly) are good. Hopefully on closer inspection of the Harness Connection to the Assembly you'll notice some evidence of arcing, overheating, or wire damage that can be fixed/bypassed... Otherwise it might involve some painstaking hunting for a short or shorts farther upstream...

I have found on my Malibu MAXX that on both sides, the parking lamp would not light....with power off, I had to slightly pry up the brass tab in the socket seat to provide solid contact with the inserted bulb base. Now has worked fine for ~ a year.

In your case, it may need prying, OR the contact inside the base is scuzzed up and needs scrapping with screwdriver for electrical contact....
