Question Installing aftermarket wipers ?!?

So, I've had my astra for about 2 or 3 years now, and this is the first time, I've had to change my wipers. I went and picked up a pair of rain-x weather beater blades, when I tried to install them I found that the way the arm is uniquely built I was unable to attach the plastic coupler attachment , I also found that attachment would not properly lock on to the center post on the wiper arm. I'd like to know, before I go out again and waste my time on this if there are any aftermarket wipers that will actually fit correctly on the astra.

Have you considered OEM replacements? Tom S2 picked up a pair of OEM blades in this thread. I have no idea what aftermarket blades cost, but you can't really argue with that price for OEM blades.

Rain x weather beaters will not fit. But bosch OE## blades will. Rain X latitude will as well. The connector is unique. If you get the Bosch blades make sure they say OE24 or whatever the the size is and not just 24

I got some Michelin stealth blades that fit just fine. Took a few minutes to figure out the attachment but then it was a snap. Literally it just snaps on no issues.

Actually, just checked my invoice & I was mistaken - we got the slightly more expensive Bosch ' Icon ' all season wiper blades instead of Bosch ' Evolution ' wiper blades.

The Icons cost us $26 & $22 CDN respectively.

I thought about this the other day when considering getting some new blades, but is it possible to install new wiper arms on the Astra to avoid the strange OE size blades? Just a thought.

Thanks for the link to the OEM set. Ordered it from the same place (came from Rockenbach Chev) and delivered to my door for $23. My orig blades lasted more than 4 years, so I'm happy to put OEMs back on for such a good price.

That's what I used to recommend if you can afford it (swapped out in the fall around the first signs of rain so that they are fresh and supple). Every two years if not. I constantly have to drive cars that are 3-4 years old that still have the same blades that came from the factory, and visibility is almost always atrocious. I can't imagine how people drive like this.

The tiny rear blade on our cars costs about the same as the front blade pair, so it's perfectly understandable to swap it out maybe every second time you do the fronts.

+1

We aim to change them 1X a year around every Nov 1st or so - just before winter hits

Actually, we just put on 2 new Bosch ' Icon ' wipers a couple of weeks ago.

I just bought a set of Trico blades, #2121B and #1712B which are the "OE" style. Have not tried to install them on the wiper arms but they look like the ones on the car. Hopefully they will go on without incident. Paid $13 shipped at Rock Auto.

Be cautious of ordering from dealer without checking their price. Bob Brown Chevy in Des Moines (the assigned Saturn dealer) charged $29.70 plus tax for the windshield wipers. Greatly appreciate the on-line option as I will not be buying much from Bob Brown
