2008 AURA XE
Default Competition for Vue: 2009 GMC Terrain

It looks like a good thing has caught on. They're killing-off the Pontiac Torrent in 2009 and replacing it with an Antara / Vue - based CUV to be sold as the 2009 GMC Terrain.

Perhaps this will bring long awaited features such as; sun roof, manual tranny, diesel, better MPG, etc.? Competition has to be good thing ... this should prod Saturn to keep the Vue up to date.

you won't see any new diesels over here until they can satisfy the new federal emissions requirements.

for the first time in 8 years, I don't own a saturn.

Word has it that this is not true. It's likely that a rebadged VUE will arrive in the Middle Eastern markets as the GMC Terrain, but the US market will see a new Terrain based off the current Equinox/Torrent.

Not necessarily when you are competing against yourself.

As mentioned, we won't see diesel over here. I'm sure a sunroof is in the works. And don't believe they will offer a manual in a GMC version.

It's already there from what I understand and over at GMi, they are saying it's coming here as well to replace the Torrent at Pontiac/Buick/GMC stores...which is more sad rebadging from GM another reason why all GM cars should be sold at a single dealership and GMC needs to disappear from the regular consumer market.

The thread at GMI posted an update from the source (autoblog) that said the VUE-based Terrain will not be coming here.

Oh. I didn't see that update. I've sene the Terrain pics and even pointed it out in a thread here, but then I saw on GMi that it was coming here. I'm glad it's not, but I woulnd't be suprised if it did.

Actually, I can't reference it directly, but either later in that thread at GMI, or on a newer thread, they are back to saying the Terrain WILL be coming to the US market after all.

There will be a GMC Terrain, but it won't be the same one that is going to be sold in the Middle East (the rebadged Vue looking one). Instead, it will be an updated Chevy Equinox/Pontiac Torrent.

Not a bad thing, if they can create something similar to the Suzuki XL-7 I would be interested. The Lambda's are just too big for me!

Likely, yes, and the purpose is so the Pontiac Torrent can go away (not a vehicle class Pontiac wants to have), but then be transferred over to GMC, which is still sold in that "store" of Pontiac-Buick-GMC.

Basically, the Torrent is to die, but its essence will be reincarnated by a GMC model in the same house...ala Terrain, of some sort.

That I'm ok with, I just hope it's not a blatant VUE re-badge. The pictures I saw of the Terrian are literally a VUE minus the new Saturn characteristic chrome bar and the letters GMC in red across the grille opening. That's fine for the middle east where there is no Saturn or Opel presence, but here that's not cool. I still think the Torrent is the best looking of the Theta vehicles, so some re-working of the Pontiac split grille into a GMC grille would be best.
