Default Hard Starting Question

1996 SL2 with 140,000 miles. The car will start but I have to press the accelerator to get it going. Normally I just turn the key and it would fire right up. I have kept up with all of the routine maintenance (Iím the original owner). Not sure where to start in trying to diagnose the problem.

If you have not replaced the ECTS sensor this would be a great starting point. It's a very common issue had pretty much same issue on the 96 SL2 I owned. The new sensor is brass so problem solved

Thank you underthehood. I forgot all about that particular part. I'm also due for a spark plug change as well so between the two hopefully it will solve the issue.

If those don't seem to help - I suspect low fuel pressure issues. You can check fuel pressure below the throttle body. Fuel pressure should be 30-35 PSI at idle.

Clean up the posts at your igniton. The cold and old plugs and wires can cause one or more of those to really corrode as well as cylinder specific conditions. The extra electrical cold load and wasted spark can cause corrosion and should be checked.
