Default 2005 ion 2 battery type 75 or 78

I'm confused on what battery I should get. Walmart says 75 and Sam's club says 78. How could the same company recommend different sizes?

EDIT: I checked the current battery and it says 75FT. Still not sure why I'm seeing 78 in some places.

I did a catalog check at AC Delco for a battery on your vehicle. It shows both batteries as suitable for the Ion. Personally, I prefer a battery with a larger case if the space is available. I would therefore choose the group 78 battery over the group 75.

To clarify the battery size for the ION changed during its 2003-2007 run so earlier models will have one size while later models another. Some catalogs and reference guides don't properly reflect which size is correct for their vehicle.

In general I agree with going with the biggest battery that will fit your Vehicle. However, if your ION uses the smaller size the existing battery strap/vent tubing may not work properly when "upsizing".

Take measurements of your existing battery/compartment/vents and check the replacement will fit regardless of what the book(s) say.

Your '05 is probably using a 75... its my impression that they switched during the 2006 model year. So some '06s will have 75 and others 78. Anyone with specific details?
