Default Strange Windshield Wiper Behavior

My stepdaughter brought her 05 Ion over today for me to look at the wipers that she said just started acting strange. Specifically they only work on high and do not park when switched off. And every time the ignition is switched on the wipers run for 10-11 seconds and then stop without parking. My first thought was the motor park switch is bad but it seems the wipers should work on all settings just not park. I see from the Haynes schematics that the control logic appears to be in the BCM not the motor. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Resetting the BCM by disconnecting the negative battery cable fixed the problem. I should have done that last night but accessing the battery in a trunk used a closet wasn't easy.

Hey glad to hear you fixes it your self. Whats a BCM. And its comforting to hear someone elses discomfort with the hidden battery. Be glad the wiper motor wasnt going, i had trouble getting my wiper transmission aligned once back on.

BCM is Body Control Module... Just think of it as a brain for your Vehicle. So it may be a good idea to review the Owner's manual and the proper procedure to Jump Start the Saturn ION so as not to accidentally fry or mess up the BCM which can create some bizarre behaviors from the vehicle.

The "Hidden" battery may be more pronounced on the ION but a lot of newer vehicles are hiding the battery in the engine compartment too. Usually inside a hard plastic case. Sometimes in a less then ideal place to easily access it quickly.
