Default fuel tank strap

800 kms on my 2007 Ion 3 sedan, fuel gauge stopped working. Thought I would take a look underneath, bolt had fallen out of the left tank strap so the fuel tank was only supported by one strap! Dealer fixed right away so they were good, but sad state of affairs for the assembly line guy /girl who built the car.

Same thing happened on my 2006 Ion in July, same side of the car too. I kept hearing a metallic jingling while driving over speed bumps and other less-than-smooth pavement. The service department fixed it and so far all's been well with the straps. I hope the right side bolt doesn't decide to bolt any time soon.

The tank's under the back seat and the straps wrap around the tank. Look for one or both straps to dangle in an elongated L-shape.

Wish I'd bothered to look at this earlier. Been driving around for a few Weeks with my Driver's side Gas Tank strap dangling (Rusted out). Since I'd recently had some Exhaust System work done... figured the noise it made at idle and the strap hanging down was all related to something that they forgot to reconnect or had came loose afterward.

Regardless was having the car in for service tomorrow anyway for "Tire Noise" which I've just recently figured may be a bad Wheel Bearing Hub Assembly. (Which I blame on still driving Winter Tires in "Spring". Another lame excuse.)

Hoping for no more surprises when I get to the Shop.
