Default This car is driving me nuts!

2008 Saturn VUE XR with 93,000 miles.

It happened again last evening. While driving in heavy stop-n-go traffic (the only time it ever does occur) the vehicle acted as if something is holding it back is the best way that I can describe it. Again, no check engine light. It cleared up after a mile or so. Iím starting to wonder if maybe itís a fuel delivery/traction control issue and not related to the transmission.

My 1996 SL2 with a 150K has been more trustworthy.

MAybe your trans fluid is toast from repeated overheating.

Is it still on the factory fill?

Can you choose one of following?

You press gas pedal and ...

a. engine speed (revs) do not change.

b. engine speed increases but it feels like brakes are applied.

c. engine spits, coughs or stumbles.

d. Vue tends to steer left, right or straight ahead.

At next occurrence ... when traffic permits ... nudge gear shift to neutral to see if Vue coasts to smooth stop or if nose dips and you immediately lose speed.

And while in neutral - press and release gas pedal to verify RPM's' increase as expected.
...
I try to visit forum often but suggest you use private messages if in a rush (comes to cell) and include email address for extracts. I seldom check visitor messages so please don't use.

billysvue - not the original fluid, we had it changed last weekend and everything seemed to be fine.

far2grumpy - it feels as if the brakes are being applied. Will try your putting into neutral suggestion next time it happens.

Just to give you an update. Turned out the master cylinder was leaking into the brake booster causing the brakes to apply pressure. The car feels like new again, you can take your foot off of the gas pedal and it will just coast. Iím a stickler for checking my gas mileage and before the fix was getting around 16/17 mpg in city driving, now up to almost 21 mpg. Thanks to everyone for your help, glad I didnít let the dealership just dig into the transmission. Just need to replace the spark plugs and hopefully I can get another 100K out of it .
