Default Auto Transmission issue

My 99 SL2 has suddenly started slamming into all gears with no warning. I've only driven it about 2 miles since it started. Does it all the time in every gear, prior to that it worked perfectly. Approx 240,000 km ~150,000 miles. Fluid last changed about 1 yr ago, worked fine since then.

I know the transmission design has several issues with valve body/solenoids/shaft nuts. Where should I start so I can drive the car soon? Is there a breakdown of simptom vs cure, I'd rather not start at the wrong end of the cure path. I'm familiar with the how to's just like to know the best guess on which one first.

Thanks

Probably a bad LP Solenoid. You want to start with a resistance check . . .

Why not check your fluid before chasing off in all directions?
It may be low, may be overfilled, may be pale looking (worn out) or dark colored (burnt) or if you've gone any significant miles in the last year, it might just be time to drain and refill with a new filter & dexron III compatible fluid.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll test the solenoid. Already checked the fluid, it's good.

I did this drill a few weeks ago (172k mi.). LP Solenoid was down around 3 Ohms. Purchased a new one off Amazon (GM 21003344 - $48.50). Tranny shifting like a dream again.

So, I finally had a chance to pull things apart and get some testing done. Removing the transmission coupler and checking there, shows that all solenoids check good, 5.1 to 5.3V as shown in the youtube video. Next check is to try to find any issues with the electrical system, any thoughts on other checks or best guess? Maybe a broken/shorted wire somewhere?

Thanks

Further check of the electrical system showed a blown fuse in the Engine Room fuse box. Probably should have started there. Battery voltage tests OK. Didn't have any check engine lights.

What's the best guess on a blown transmission fuse cause? Hate for it to blow again, far from home.

Was it the correct value fuse? Replace it and see what happens, but replace only once. If it blows again, there is most likely a real problem that needs fixing.

It was a 10 amp fuse (red) which I think is correct.

There are 3 TRS fuses - which one has blown? If the Solenoid resistance is good, could be a wire shorting to the chassis.

The first one blew, for the line pressure solenoid.

That explains the slamming. Maybe start by disconnecting the battery and measuring the resistance between fuse socket and chassis ground.

The fuse replacement seems to have done the trick. I didn't find any electrical issue. The harness just lays on top of the transmission so I used a zip tie to lift it up some so the wires don't rub on the case. Didn't find any spots worn through though. Voltage at the battery tests ok with engine off and goes up to a reasonable level when running, so it seems the alternator is functioning OK. Got my fingers crossed.

Thanks
