Prove what wrong exactly? He had an idea (turboing his car), which needs far more research and refinement (not just bolting it on).

Nobody is saying it's a bad idea
Nobody is saying it won't run
Nobody is saying don't do it.

What we are saying is: research research research and do it right.

Actually....what I'm saying is this....

If you spend enough money and time, it will function and you can expect about 40-50% increase in engine output without tearing into the lower end. For about the same money, you can get any number of cars of similar or newer vintage that came from the factory with a turbo and are tune-able to power outputs well in excess of 300hp. It's just not cost effective to do this on a Saturn.

However, kids will be kids. Telling them they can't do something only eggs them on. When his wallet is a few thousand lighter and he still has something that struggles to keep up with a V6 minivan in a streetlight race, I think you'll eventually see that light bulb light up and he'll lick his wounds and move on to greener pastures. Good luck.

Best,

Wi11y he is trying to prove to me that he can run a saturn with about 10 psi boost with stock fuel components. No extra fuel to the engine.

With moderate to extreme NA builds, they begin to max out the stock fuel system. If he thinks there is room to gain an extra 50hp on top of that, he's delusional.

Let the guy fail and don't post again until he does.

So your friend is some magic wizard that can do the impossible then?

You can't do that. Period.

Here are a few examples of how his "blown" engine will look

Engine 1: hitting valves

Engine 2: snapped rod

And if his engine somehow survives here is one of those "blown" transmissions

If a transmission can't handle an engine with 124hp what will happen if it has 180? These engines were made to save gas not be powerhouses

I may have to look around for the piston from engine 2, the piston was cracked through and the only thing holding the two pieces together were the piston rings

If he had any brains he would be doing this research himself. But to be honest, im glad he isnt. Those two 'wizards' are decently deep into this mod already. The honda kids dad welded up a plate to bolt the turbo to the manifold. So they only have a short distance to go now (in they're world). Like i said i cant wait to put my low mileage engine in that car. He may not be afraid of a turbo, but he is a sissy when it comes to changing engines

This is interesting. Any way you can get install pics as the "project" progresses? It would be like a "what not to do" or "steps toward detonation" scrap book. Of course, a video of the first start would be golden. At 10psi without A/F management, it won't last long.

Do we need to start a poll on what breaks? Piston, Rod through the side, transmission?
