Default Recalls, are we alone?

For the week of July 26th, 2004 here are this weeks recalls.

2002-04 Honda CR-V
Problem: Improper driver airbag wiring increases the risk of injury in some kinds of crashes
Fix: Repair wiring.
Number of affected vehicles: 131,000


2000-01 Honda Accord
Problem: Dimmer control fails, causing loss of instrument panel illumination.
Fix: Replace mechanism that controls instrument panel brightness.
Number: 20,000


2000 Honda S2000
Problem: Lenses for the side markers and tailight reflectors were made with the wrong dye and will fade.
Fix: Replace tailight assemblies.
Number: 7,000


2003 Ford Excursion and F-250 through F-550, all with 6-liter diesel engines
Problem: Loose engine ground attachment sends current to alternative path, creating a fire hazard.
Fix: Replace engine ground stud; inspect other components; replace those that show damage.
Number: 84,000


2003 Ford Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Car (Police and fleet vehicles only)
Problem: Rear wheel bearings and axle shafts wear prematurely; shafts break; vehicle stops.
Fix: Replace bearings, shafts, and seals.
Number: 47,000


2004 Ford Taurus, Thunderbird; Mercury Sable
Problem: Improperly welded power-adjustable seat may not support load during a crash.
Fix: Replace upper support on seat.
Number: 24,000


2004 Ford Ranger
Problem: Imprperly formed center rail flange could cause frame rail to puncture fuel tank in crashes.
Fix: Replace vehicle if frame fails inspection
Number: 1,400


2004 Cadillac CTS, SRX, XLR; Chevrolet Corvette
Problem: A washer on the wrong material allows a lower control arm ball joint stud to disengage from yhe knuckle, disrupting steering and possibly reduce brake performance.
Fix: Replace nut and washer if torque has been maintained; replace stud, knuckle, washer and nut if torque has not been maintained.
Number: 42,000


2004 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo; Pontiac Grand Prix
Problem: Loose front brake calipers interfere with normal steering and braking.
Fix: Tighten brake caliper bolts.
Number: 48,000


2002 GMC Envoy, Oldmobile Bravada, all with electronic air suspension
Problem: Electrical spike from air suspension disrupts powertrain control module; vehicle stalls and may not restart.
Fix: Install wiring jumper harness.
Number: 30,000


2004 Chevrolet Malibu Classic, Pontiac Grand Am
Problem: Improperly welded fuel tank leaks gasoline.
Fix: Replace tank.
Number: 2,900


2005 Subaru Legacy Outback
Problem: Side airbag curtains do not deploy fully or quickly enough.
Fix: Replace modules.
Number: 2000


2005 Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum
Problem: Loose battery cable fastener at bulkhead stud may cause instrument panel fire.
Fix: Tighten fastener.
Number: 12,000


2004 Jeep Liberty with 3.7-liter engine
Problem: Wiring damage by valve cover studs start fire under hood.
Fix: Place protective caps on valve cover studs and reroute wiring.
Number: 1,600


2004 Chrysler Sebring Coupe, Dodge Stratus Coupe, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder
Problem: Gasoline leaks from improperly molded return line fitting.
Fix: Replace fuel pump.
Number: 7,000


2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor with All-Wheel drive
Problem: Rear driveshaft comes loose, may fail.
Fix: Replace driveshaft flange bolts.
Number: 29,000


2002-04 Mitsubishi Montero
Problem: Gasoline can leak from fuel leveling valve.
Fix: Replace valve.
Number: 44,000


2004 Nissan Maxima with glass-paneled roof
Problem: Glass can shatter.
Fix: Replace glass panels.
Number: 32,000


So, are we alone?

In addition (I didn't see this in the list), DCX is recalling 800,000+ Minivans because they could catch fire.

I think the VUE Recall is getting so much press because they are trying to link it to the Explorer/Firestone Recall, you know since the recall involves the SUV rolling over.

And it would take such a drastic maneuver in which in real life the truck would probably roll over anyway to cause this falure......this is the kinda material that would go great on Penn and Teller's BS show.......because the way the media is handling it is bulls?!t because they r anti Saturn from the get go!

Oh, and so did the TrailBlazer for the windshield wipers...

So to clarify, these are recalls issued my the manufacturers for the first week or so of August alone? These werent recalls last month?

Note that Saturn will probably not show up on the next list because it is a voluntary customer satisfaction recall initiated by Saturn. These are all Government-mandated recalls forced on the manufacturers by the NHTSA.
