Been discussed on every Saturn forum. Its pretty much useless. Unless your goal is to run so rich that you foul plugs, clog the catlaytic converter, over work the injectors, foul the O2 sensor(s) and decrease MPG.

'When a vehicle is running at stoichometric levels, the engine is running at its most efficient state. It will be creating the maximum amount of HP without sacrificing the amount of fuel being used.'

Well, when they don't even know how to tune an engine, how can they develop a chip to tune it?

There is absolutely no such thing as an "easy 50". Think about it - that's a 40% increase over a stock DOHC. Do you honestly think GM does THAT poor a job at tuning their cars? There is some safety margin, but the best ballpark of what you might expect to get through only adjusting the tune on an otherwise stock s-series is likely in the 10-15hp range, tops. From what I've read, it seems unlikely an S-Series could gain 50hp with every bolt-on under the sun plus a tune, most likely it'd require internal engine work as well.

Perhaps he meant 50mpg. There is a Saturn owner named cheapybob or similar who put a hot air intake over his exhaust manifold to get 50mpg.

Hot air intake AND driving 50mph on the interstate AND short shifting AND accelerating like an 18-wheeler.

You forget also that performance and MPG are generally polar opposites. Furthermore, Saturn and performance are also polar opposites.

Was that with the SRI or stock?

Either way, cool That should get you, what, over 500 miles to a tank, with some reserve?

that was with the SRI(taking in air from the right corner of the engine bay, not over the exhaust manifold).

and if i was to run it til the tank was bone dry, it would have gone 540 miles, haha

The older cars had 12.8-ish gallon tanks. Capacities are in your owner's manual.

The only "dumb" thing is running the tank that low. Like with any vehicle, the lower 1/4 tank is an emergency reserve.

yeah, its a good thing i never ran it with less than 2 gallons.

My dad smoked several fuel pumps on our old astro cause he would overheat the pump by running the tank nearly dry everytime.

(Apologies to those who've heard this before) My ONE experience with a low-fuel light. Generic GM rental (Grand Am?), 1997, bought the initial tank of gas, so it worked out better to drop off the car near the bottom of the tank, vs. the top. Return trip, aprx. 10 miles from the drop-off, I-94, the light comes on. I'm thinking, cool, planned perfectly. Aprx. 1/2 mile later, the car sputters and stalls, out of gas. No cell phone. State cop comes by, calls AAA for us. Hope I didn't prematurely burn up the poor rental company's fuel pump....

My '99 ran out of fuel, never turned the light on. Best to just fill up before you even run close to the E.
