Hello all-

I just wanted to check in and say "awesome site"!!

Anyway, I have been a saturn owner for a couple of years now and I just love driving my saturn! I have certainly had faster, more expensive cars, but this car is just a blast to drive! I attribute that to the fact that you can reach 8/10 or 9/10 of its performance and still obey 99% of traffic laws.

While I am rambling, I have a question. What happened to the red line on newer saturns? my 95 has a 6500 rpm red line, but I was looking at a newer SC2 on e-bay and noticed that it had dropped to 5500rpms. This seems a little light, after all I had a 98 mustang gt with the 4.6 liter that had (i believe) the same redline. I expect that in a larger engine, but not a 4 banger... what gives?

Thanks!

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Maybe it was an SC1, not as SC2. My old SL1 had 5,500 rpm redline.
Welcome to the board. I enjoy driving my SC2 as well.

Exactly right. SOHC Saturns have a 5500 RPM redline. All DOHC Saturns have had the 6500 redline since day 1.

Are you sure? I'd swear my '94 SC-2 had a gauge that said 5500, even though the engine would go beyond before shifting if I punched it. My '99 is 6500.

All Twin Cams had a 6500 redline - single cams 5500. I can tell you something, I have seen this happen. Sometimes when the odometer gets replaced (the old ticking odometer from 1996!), they could replace it with the wrong cluster by accident. We had a 1997 SW2 on the lot that had a 180 km/h speedometer and a 5500 redline tach. It should read to 210 km/h and redline at 6500. The warranty history for the car showed the odometer had been replaced. Just my 2 cents worth.
