2009 VUE 2.4L
Question Manual transmission oil

Hi: I purchased a 2002 VUE last month, 2.2, 5sp manual, FWD, 42K.
Everything seems fine, except the transmission is really clumsy and notchy to shift. I read the manual in prep for a change, as I like to change fluids and filters on a car I buy, anyway. It says I should use ATF. I read on a thread here that Mobil synthetic ATF was the way to go to get smooth shifting, so I had that done. Well, it hasn't really happened. Its a little better than before, but not much. It seems like the AFT just isn't lubricating well enough. Seems like its really thin. Is there any advice anyone can give me? Thank you.

believe it or not the manual transmissions use ATF. I've got an Ion with the 5 speed also. I think the only difference between your's and mine is the final drive ratio. It calls for Dexron III ATF, or at least used to. I have Mobil Synthetic in mine. Can't say it feels much different than when it had the OE fluid in it. I only changed it because it was easy to do and seemed like a smart idea.

Try some royal purple synchromax fluid instead of the ATF
cost at Napa is $16.00/Litre Ca. and it's a replacement for manual gearboxes which use an ATF

Hi: Thanks. Thats what I found too. Another responder suggested a Royalpurple fluid, if you would like to check it out. Also, I found an article on the ION manual trans fluid which states that the ION supercharged 2.0 transaxle required an upgraded fluid, PN21018899. The Royal Purple or that upgraded Saturn fluid may be worth checking out. Also maybe someone here has experience with of more info on that upgraded Saturn fluid for the SC2.0 ION transaxle. ???
Take care.
