Default How-To: 4Hi Headlight Mod on S-Series with DRL's.

This is an addendum to Wolfman's how to...
His instructions for cars with DRL's is a little...well...vague.
So, I will give credit where credit is due...this wiring diagram was from member "LB_BlueVue".
He wrote this up for his Vue...but this is also the diagram for our S-Series with Daytime Running Lights.
I just did this, and it works perfectly.
The best part about this mod, is if either/both relay(s) fail(s) it will revert back to stock.
Also:
Chassis Ground = I used the nut on the top of the battery hold down.
12v+ = I used the lug on the back of the UHJB.
Materials:
Two 4-pin 30amp Relay's from Radio Shack
Approx. 10' of 16guage multistrand copper wire.
small pack of wire splices
small pack of female spade connectors

Connections:
Relay 1:
87- Connect to terminal #85 on Relay2 & Chassis Ground.
85- Connect to HighBeam ground. (May be pink)
86- Connect to 12v+. (Use Inline Fuse)
30- Connect to terminal #87 on Relay2.

Relay 2:
87- Connect to terminal #30 on Relay1.
85- Connect to terminal #87 on Relay1 & Chassis Ground.
86- Connect to ParkingLamp HOT. (Brown or Tan)
30- Connect to LowBeam ground. (May be blue)

Would a mod please edit one line of this post
"Chassis Ground = I used the drivers side upper radiator mount nut"
Is what it SHOULD say for what Chassis Ground I used.

This looks like a great idea. Why not make the trigger for the relay the high beam its self? Would the day time lights not allow that?

i just did this mod like 30 minutes ago. the chevy malibu concept didn't work, it just blew a fuse. TIMSPEED's concept worked however. great mod instructions. this is how mine ended up:

2001 SL1 5spd - DOHC swap and MS in the works
Bought 02/27/14

2000 SL 5spd
Bought 04/05/05
Sold 06/14/10

I got a better mod which i did 2 days ago on an spare hdlight. I took the bracket for hi beam bulb out and put it in the low beam side. Then i trimmed the guide tab in the bulb socket(where the 2 prongs are at.) so that the connector would fit in properly. Same said for the low beam on the hi beam side. Hell u could get junker hdlt and put both hi beam brackets on so that u have 2 hi beam. I also had to drill an extra hole to get the connector to face downward and grind an alignment tab off. Easy half hour mod.

...
now with problems and getting a newer car but not a saturn :(
My 95 SL2 white top of the line car Priceless..

Has anyone done this with a full relay kit for the highs and lows for higher wattage bulbs?

I'm pretty sure that nothing changes with this mod if you throw on a high output relay harness. I thought about it and your still drawing a signal from the original plugs, therefore, all the relay harness will do is just get a better flow of power to the light bulbs.

I did mine the Malibu way about a year or 2 afo, plus got rid of the DRLs, and never had a problem. I love it. Fogs stay on, low beams too, when I turn on the highs. I'm about to put on some high output fogs, so when I'm driving those dark country roads I will be able to see everything.

WITHOUT DRL's, you only need one relay.
Wolfman has the wiring diagram for that in How-To
