Default EGR Valve cleaning

I remove my EGR Valve to clean it since it had probably never been done, and know I have a few questions:

1) I don't have "carb cleaner", can I use lighter gas instead? Will it do the same job?

2) On the little how to, it says to clean the little part with an arrow

The big hole above that on the picture, in my case, is full of carbon inside, it's like carbon catacombs Well there is enough space for the air to go through, but there is a carbon coating of about 2-3mm even inside the hole. Is it important to remove that for the egr valve to work well? Can I just put some lighter gas in and shake it or I'll break something?

Oh another question, if my gasket seems not that bad, is it bad if I keep it? I need to put my EGR back for tonight because I have to use my car.

It's a little late but, since no one answered, I'll try. You want to get the end of the pintle and the part the pintle seats in clean. Compressed air and dental picks will work. Scrubbing with a solvent will work. If by lighter gas, you mean butane, I don't think so. Naptha for Zippos might work. You can reuse the gasket, if it looks okay.

...
There is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action.

I would scrape the buildup out of the bigger hole, too. I just cleaned my EGR yesterday, hoping to fix my loss of power problem. I had carb cleaner laying around, I used tons of that and a screw driver to work the pintle and scrape around it.

Ok thanks for your answers. By lighter gaz I was not talking of butane but gaz like in zippo. It's a blue bottle of the "IT" brand. I often use that to clean stuff, like glue, grease, fresh paint where I don't want the paint to be , etc. so I was thinking it could work.

From what you've said.. I will have to clean it again, I didn't have enough lighter fluid (only a bottom of bottle) so I only cleaned the pintle and the outline of the bigger hole, but not the "part the pintle seats in".

Go buy some air intake cleaner.
Lighter fluid is just to flameable to use safely. The intake cleaner is designed more for dissolving carbon as well. Any parts house/Canadian tire will have some.
