Default Chevy dealers servicing Saturns

I just contacted my two local Chevy dealers in Pinellas County, Florida, and both said that they definitely service all Saturn vehicles, provide warranty work, and carry Saturn parts. One service rep even told me that several of that dealer's technicians are previous Saturn techs who are very familiar with Saturn vehicles. He himself had worked at my particular Saturn dealer for eight years and thinks very highly of the cars and the brand. His Chevy dealership is expecting a lot of new business from local Saturn owners who have been previously serviced by the three local Saturn dealers. Saturn's demise will apparently be a boon for Chevy dealerships' service departments.

On the other hand, I have read some reports by Saturn owners who have been turned away by their local Chevy dealers' service departments. I hope GM ensures that all Chevy dealers will service Saturn vehicles. GM's press releases have indicated this will be the case.

I am curious what forum members' experiences have been with getting their vehicles serviced at Chevy dealers.

I took my Aura into the Chevrolet dealership in La Quinta Ca and was turned away. They only service Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Hummers. Had no agreements to do warranty work on Saturns. This was back in April.
I then saw a Saturn sign on a Buick dealership. They took me right in without an appointment, did my transmission reflash with a smile and welcomed me into the dealers family of customers. Made me feel very comfortable and welcome. I was happily surprised.

I wasn't happy that the Cadillac-Chevrolet dealer my family has been doing business with for 30 years just said no, go away. They wouldn't even tell me the Buick dealer was doing the Saturn sales and service.

I took my Astra to Van Chevrolet in Kansas City, MO for coolant and timing belt issues. They had no problem honoring the warranty and fixed my car that day. I was actually a little shocked at what great service I got. I half expected to be treated like a red-headed stepchild.

Seems hit or miss with the other GM dealers. My Saturn dealer was upsetting me about 4 months ago so I went looking for another GM dealer willing to do warranty work and called 8 GM dealers, 5 of which were Buick-Pontiac-GMC and 3 were Chevy. Only 1 of them said yes, a Chevy dealer and they were so far away I decided to keep trying to hammer out the problems at the Saturn dealer. Luckily the Saturn dealer came through and I haven't had a problem since. They have a detached service department and I asked about their future when I was there yesterday and at this point they are staying open at least until their contract is up in October 2010. I guess I'm one of the lucky(er) ones.

If they don't they're fools. Who in their right mind would turn away business in the middle of a recession.

There's been a sign up at my Saturn dealer for a year or two now that says they'll accept all makes for light service duties.

It seems the arrogance of these places blinds them to cultivating a new customer [for Chevy,Buick or GMC ] via providing service for ex GM brands.

I know the local Chevy dealer's service dept. is currently grindingly slow, as my neighbor is a mechanic/tech there. From what he tells me they just don't have the business they used to: they used to be open till midnight during the week.

Saturn of N. Hills [a member of Galpin ] is still open. But when it winds down GM would be idiotic if they didn't try to bring Saturn in under the Goodwrench service umbrella. They should do it if only for the chance to prove themselves to Saturn owners who would never have bought GM in the first place and other Saturn owners who have sworn off from GM for good now.

I think the issue is/was a contractual agreement required for warranty payments to the dealership for the work they do on your car. If you want to pay cash for the service, most shops will work on just about anything.

Questioned Saturn recently and received an answer dated October 12th, 2009. It stated
"Our goal is to keep Saturn owners aware of the following key facts:

"Your Saturn vehicle warranty coverage is completely unchanged and fully backed by GM.

Once Saturn has been phased out, you will be notified where to have warranty work completed and the vehicle maintained.

Saturn parts will continue to be available for the foreseeable future."

Hope this will help those of us who are worried about our warranties.

Hopefully that will be the case when I go to my Chevy dealer for service. When I went to one today to ask about a part, they had no idea what an Aura was. They look dumbfounded when I said Aura. I had to explain it was a Saturn and pretty much like a Malibu.

I've received excellent service from the Chevy dealer; they took me in with open arms and even trotted out the service manager, who assured me that they would be happy to help me with my Saturn - this was the day after the big announcement, and they did not yet have an agreement in place. I'm quite happy, as the facilities at the Chevy dealer are much more modern and spacious, and they have specialist mechanics. The Saturn dealer was small and cramped, with an ancient dark service bay. I'm pleased with the change.

I have been taking my Saturn to the local Chevrolet-Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealer for almost a year. I asked them about my Saturn when I had my Bonneville in for service. They said they were happy to get the business. Other than a slight hiccup getting parts (issue now fixed - they are allowed to order Saturn parts direct, rather than through a Saturn dealer), I have been happy with the service. They are a smaller dealer, and have always done great on parts and work on my Bonneville.

If you're in the Hartford area, Gengras Chevrolet will gladly service your Saturn. They have a Saturn/Pontiac sign out front too.
