Default Won't Stay Running

I have a 2002 Saturn SL manual trans, 195k miles. I have had it for two years and it has ran perfectly up until today. All of the sudden when I go to start it, it turns over but only runs for about 1.5 seconds and the fuel gauge shows it on empty even though it has a full tank of gas. Also the "service" light comes on and remains on, it's just straight service light, not the service engine soon light. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check the fuel pressure at the engine, could be a failing pump or relay.

check the spark with a timing light while it runs to see if it continues to blink when the engine quits. Could be ignition related.

Get the codes read, do a free rent a tool from the local big box autoparts store.

Good luck

I don't have a Gen 3, so you aren't meaning a service wrench are you, or does that model have something besides the wrench and SES lights?

Took it to a GM dealer and they fixed it without using parts/1 hour labor. They said something like bad connection/bcm or something along those lines.

Well, it has been 7 days since the dealership just "fixed" the bad connection at the BCM or body control module, and my car is back to square one. Won't stay running more than 1 second after turning over, and fuel gauge shows empty.

Back to the dealership it went...an like last time it's the bcm, but this time they say that the bcm is bad and total cost will be $390 to replace. I seen how it's done and there's nothing to it and the part can be had for like $225, but it's already there and they are antsy to fix it so I guess I will just let them do it so I don't have to mess with it. It's my only car and I can't buy a reliable car for $390 so I guess if I look at it that way...

I'm currently going through this with my 2000 SW2, if you get a junkyard BCM they can program the module including mileage for cheaper.

From the time back to the GM dealership until Monday when it's supposed to be finished, it will have been 11 days that they had my car. Everytime they are called they keep saying that they are having problems programming the new BCM they ordered, or that they have to order a different BMC. Seems like the runaround. Does this sound right to you?

Got the car back yesterday. After a $40 any service coupon from that dealership it was about $360 total. It started and drove fine yesterday, I haven't tried starting it today but lets hope she's really fixed this time.
