2007 Saturn Ion driver side door will not open

We own a 2007 Saturn Ion. The driver's side door will not open from the inside or outside. When operating the outside door handle the linkage in the door does not move. When operating the inside door handle the linkage in the door does move. When operating the door lock cylinder with the key, the door lock cylinder seems to operate normally. We removed as much of the inside door panel as possible to gain access to the linkage toward the rear of the door to find that there is no real access. How do we access the internal linkage at the door catch assembly. Tired of getting in and out on the passenger side.
