Default Air Injection Solenoid

I had a mechanic determine that I need a new air injection solenoid after my check engine light has been on for a while. He said the valve is no longer spinning or rotating or whatever it does.

He found a part online to purchase. However, it costs $430. does this seem outrageous for a part? Or is that normal for an air injection solenoid? He made it sound like it's a full kit that he's ordering.

I've seen a couple other Saturns had problems with this part, though the mechanic said he mostly sees it in big Ford trucks.

Help appreciated.

That seems like an insanely high to me. It can be purchased from RockAuto for ~$124. It is AC Delco p/n 214-2146. The stealership will sell you the same part (p/n 12619076) for ~$272 (sugg retail price).

It is item #1 in this diagram.

Thanks for the assistance. It sounds insanely high to me as well, but I'm just so unsure what this part actually is that I don't know how to research it. I never see anything listed as a "solenoid" which is what he told me it needs.

The AIR system is very simple and consists of the pump, the check valve, and some air tubing. Your mechanic just incorrectly referred to it as a "solenoid". It is a check valve.

I suppose from an electrical standpoint one could argue that the check valve is driven by a solenoid, but the solenoid is not serviceable in the sense that the solenoid can be replaced separately from the starter motor.
