Default 2005 Vue V6 3.5L coolant hose connection help

I had to replace the starter so I disconnected the upper and lower coolant hoses in order to get to it. After finally replacing the starter (a few weeks went by between the removal and replacement of the starter), I am ashamed to admit that I cannot remember which connection was for the upper and lower hoses.

I have attached a picture of where the hoses are supposed to go and was hoping someone could help out a complete idiot. Thanks.

The Upper Radiator Hose goes to the forward connection - the one closest to the Radiator.

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if the connections were reversed?

You may not notice any differences as long as radiator fins are clean, water pump is working to specification, cooling fans move sufficient air through radiator (fans typically operate until speed reaches 25 mph or so).

The Honda 3.5 cools slightly different than what I'm used to.

The 3.5 thermostat output hose goes to bottom radiator connection and "cooled" coolant is returned from top of radiator to cylinder heads, to engine block, through water pump and back to thermostat (with constant flow through heater core).

My old GM vehicles circulated coolant reverse of this system. The upper hose was fed by thermostat and connected to top of radiator and bottom radiator hose went to water pump, through the block, then the heads, then back to thermostat.

...
