2000 L-Series 3.0L Sedan
Default Seriously Considering this Aura; Opinions?

Hello, I am an owner of a 2000 Saturn LS2, and as much as I love the car, I would like to reward myself for my hard work on it and my job by possibly buying a nice 08' V6 Aura. My LS2 will be needing the timing belt changed and with this being so expensive, I figured the car would be worth more if sold and I upgrade. Please take a look at this Aura available near me that I am looking at, and let me know what you think...Price is low, and I would want it out-the-door for around that price, but from owners experiences they can tell me what they think about this particular model, and what to look for!

It is a 2008 Aura XE with the 3.5L v6, and a sun roof...though no leather

Priced at $6,995

Looks good for 90K miles. Note that the passenger seat belt lamp appears to be on. I refer to it as the 1000 dollar lamp as that is around the repair cost if you choose to repair it. You still have 10K left in the powertrain warranty. I would need to kick the tires, drive it & scan it before telling you it's a deal.

you are saying a timing belt is so expensive, but want to go drop almost 7x as much on a newer car with unknown problems? if you sl is paid for, buy the timing belt, bank the difference

Tell me more about this seatbelt light, do you mean in correlation with the airbag? And why would it cost 1k!

The car doesn't appear to be on, just on run, so the light could be on just from the key being in. If not, before purchase you can just have the dealer fix the issue.

All I know is I have an 07 XE and I love it, I've had issues with the passenger side airbag light not turning off if someone isn't there, but after a half hour it turns off and nothing else has happened. There have been no codes for it, it just seems to happen if it's very cold out. At -5 degrees my driver airbag light came on, that was 3 years ago and I had them check for everything and they said it all was ok but if it happened again I may have to replace that sensor.

I would just see if any codes come up for the car.

Well wow thanks guys! I was really just looking for opinions on this year and model but thanks for analyzing the link I sent you lol...asked dealer for a carfax/autocheck and they said they would give me one if I called them, but I would really like one before that or before I go and visit it.

I think that is a hellauva deal. Be sure that is a clean carfax and/or look to see if it was in an accident.

Really? Says who? He's coming from a SL2. 219hp over 182hp and much better chassis. I doubt you could find a 2008 3.6 in that price range.

Edit: I find only two (which one is what the OP is looking at) for less than $9K in 50 miles of Chicago. They are both XE's with the 3.5. XR's with the 3.6 are in $10-12K territory.

It's all about the power-weight ratio. Very few cars that are not designated sports cars will reach the ratio of my LS2, but I would take an mpg boost over a faster car. Just need to keep a little pep...so I contacted the dealership a week ago, they still have the car, and offered to give me a carfax, but only after I call. This was a bit of a red flag, and I requested to have it emailed to me...debating on whether or not I should call them up, I dislike used car dealers! Or dealers in general..

Looks okay to me. Actually I think it's a good price, as long as the car is in good shape. I love leather, but the cloth isn't bad.

I disagree about the comment with the 3.5. Having owned an XE with the 3.5 for four years, it has plenty of power, the transmission just gets in the way constantly trying to upshift. But you've got the power when you need it. You would NOT be satisfied with the power from the 2.4. I think the 3.5 is worth it, especially considering the MPG savings.

3.6 is newer technology, MUCH more powerful. Less fuel economy. 6-spd automatic.

3.5 is more efficient, reliable, but less refined.

I was happy with my 3.5 for the four years I had my AURA.
