2007 Outlook XR
Default Sell off or let it die...

I watched the news tonight and heard about GM's request for $30B more in bail out money. They also discussed a little about the restructuring they proposed to the Government. A couple points were:
  • Close 5 more plants in the US
  • Lay off 45,000 people
  • Sell off Hummer & SATURN
  • If they can't sell off Saturn then let it die out

My husband and I had talked about it before but to hear it on the news, wow. I don't know what I would chose if Saturn wasn't around. I have had 3 Saturns.

How does everyone else feel?

My wife and I feel the same as you. We also have owned three Saturns.
Unfortunately, the sales numbers is what corporate goes by and Saturn doesn't sell the numbers the other brands do.

While they (GM) might be looking at total units, that is not accuarate. At last count in January there were around 400 Saturn dealers. I don't know how many other GM dealers there are, can't find anyone who knows or where to find the info, but I would wager that if you took the number of Saturns sold last year by the number of dealers and did the same with the other brands you would find a higher unit sales rate by dealer with Saturn. Which would mean that Saturn was selling but with so fewer dealers and less advertising Saturn was set up to fail. GM didn't have faith in the line but liked them as the R&D department. Lets face it, they (GM) let Saturn, GMC, and Buick fail with the Lambdas and took all the research and built the Traverse with few if any major problems.

Could you elaborate or provide a source? Who are the multiple buyers? I have only heard of SAIC, and that talk is still up in the air. As much as I want Saturn to survive, I don't know what Saturn has to sell, other than the brand name. Saturn doesn't have its own plants.

If Saturn fails to survive, my Outlook's resale value will instantly go down the toilet.

we bought our saturn May 1, 2007. We traded our cars for the one. Since then the sunroof has leaked 7 times (lemon lawsuit filed) They replaced the carpet three times and the head liner twice, they broke my windshield while fixing a brace on the wiper fluid holder. They broke a piece of molding in the back of the car God knows how, they had to fix the DVD player once, they had to fix the wiper fluid heater, the top mount went bad and the drive axle fell to the ground while I was driving it yesterday with kids in the car.(this was due to a recall not being completed on the bolts. The service manager said it was a mistake, but that is why they have attorneys. They totally missed the recall. I am done. I have always owned Saturns and wanted to keep this one because it is a good traveling car for at least 8 years, but now I am afraid to drive this car... What happened to saturn???
No wonder they are going to get ride of it.. The original concept is long gone!
