Default Fuel Pump Help

I need to change my fuel pump. I know I can do it by cutting through the floor. I saw a post where someone did it on a L-Series. Does anyone know if the sending unit on the S-Series is located in the same spot i.e under the rear driver side seat.

Also, some one on here helped me last month with an ETCS problem; I can't find the post but just wanted to say thanks

Sorry, I just noticed that on the L-Series it was actually in the middle of the rear seat pan. Same question though, is the S-series in the same location?

This is the correct way to do it. I've done it twice now and it's really not that difficult at all.

Just make sure you get the car up high enough, otherwise it is a huge pain to remove the tank.

Thanks for the How-to..

However, while at autozone to get my fuel pump the guy informed me that it might not be the fuel pump that's wrong.

Here's the situation:

I have a 1998 SC2 137k miles Automatic.

Last Tuesday well driving in the a very bad rain storm the car died. i had been on back roads and got on the freeway and after going a little over 5 miles at about 40MPH the car died.

I though it was the fuel pump based on no fuel at the Schrader valve. However I just learned today that the key needs to be in the "run" position for there to be fuel at the schrader valve. When I put the key in the "run" position I get fuel at the schrader valve. So I'm guessing its not the fuel pump.

The car cranks but thats all.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Have checked for spark? If there is no spark thern start with the crank position sensor.

^ ^ ^ typical failure mode of the cps is that it does not work when the engine is warm but works fine when cooler (no spark, but you have to check immediately when engine is still hot - need one person to crank while the other checks)

I disconnected the 4 and 1 wire and there was no spark. I'm having autozone ship a CPS to my local store. Should be here by noon today.

Checked all fuses again? The second most failure prone item after the cps with no spark is the ignition control module (where the two ignition coils plug into). Junk yard ignition parts, icm and coils, are cheaper than new and work just as well.

Be sure the cps is fully seated. Any gap from not seating it into its hole can cause the same no spark issue.

...
*The CPS is the heart of the entire EFI system. No cps = dead EFI system*
*There's more to a/c than just a few cans of refrigerant*
*There's more to brakes than just replacing parts*
