Thanks, guys! My friend's mom had it, and she couldn't drive stick anymore, so, they were selling it. I saw it during my trip to VA during Christmas, and asked about it. When my tax return came in, I flew up there, and drove it back, . I needed a car that was great on gas, as I drive 80 miles round trip, 5 days a week! The beater Honda was junk, so I sold it for what I paid for it. Love the Saturn!!! I think of it as a "real" sports car, , sunroof, 5sp, coupe, and Speeding Ticket Red, LOL!!

Today i did a tune up on my 97' SC1. WOW huge difference. My check engine light was on because it needed a tune up.

I no longer have a slow shifting either.

92' has the wheel off, oil drained and ready to be the rest of the way taken apart to check the barrings.

Wash all three, 92' SL2, 94' SL2 and 97' SC1

Spent the afternoon cleaning the engine compartment (sans engine). Removed the TAM bracket and cleaned the coolant tank as well. Should the heater core outlet pivot at all where it leaves the firewall?? I never realized before that the PS pump reservoir was actually white?!? Pressure washed all the random bit and pieces. Most all cleaned up really well but did notice that the lower dog bone (passenger side) was really rusted. Seems somewhat odd considering all the oil residue in that area (I think the front seal was leaking as well). Should I just paint it or does it need to be replaced? Appears to be solid.

Discovered a new coolant leak, so I've started to try to figure out if its coming from the water pump again or if I have a cracked coolant reservoir. Trying to find time in my busy schedule to bring a steering knuckle in to get the new bearing/hub pressed in that was blown out by one of our Minnesota potholes.

I've only had the '01 SC2 for a few days, but...

NGK copper plugs... the old ones were really bad. surprised she ran so well... two were gapped at .085 and two were at .065, just worn and never maintained by previous owner, shame on her!

Temp patch on exhaust, under oil pan, that band clamp that rusts on these cars. Also, epoxy and JB weld on resonator tail end... pretty bad but so far so good and I plan on a more permanent fix soon.

Welded the hairline cracks on the door for the open limiter (whatever that thing is called), so no more crackling sound when I open or close the door.
...
01 SC2 so far, NGK plugs, epoxied resonator leak, welded door guide d/s, patched exhaust under engine, will weld soon... lazy for now.

01 SL2 sold

Picked up 300 pounds of horse feed (which fits in the trunk) and filled the gas tank. 305 miles on 7.5 gal or 40.7mpg.

Last time I looked in the washer reservoir (which I was letting run low), I notices a bunch of crud floating around. took it off, cleaned it out and refilled with plain distilled water to flush out the blue washer stuff from the lines (I'll let it run low sometime late summer and start filling with blue stuff again)

Added an 1/2 qt of oil and noticed one of my top mount studs had snapped! Put in all new studs and will keep an eye on it. This was the source of the vibration I was feeling in the steering wheel

Just got done washing the ride when I noticed how faded the black plastic bar in the lower grille openning was looking... .

Took the time to really clean it well, and dressed it with a little Stoners Trim Shine to add some color back to it.

More I thought of it, that was probably a bad move, because I think I'd really like to repaint it with some flexible black bumper paint I found.

What I really would like is some neat stainless steel inserts for the lower grille and fog light plugs like those SC folks can get.

Washed, clayed, glazed and waxed...cleaned the interior.

Ripped off the splash shield on the pass. side as the tabs finally broke on it and would make some lovely noise at 50mph and above.

Wet sanded and polished the aluminum sawtooth/geartooth rims. (What a pain).

Replaced the top motor mount (thank you auto zone for your lifetime warranty)

Replaced the spark plugs (bosch plat.) with NGK coppers.

Time for a shower and a cold beverage!

My 140k 98 SL2 thew a rod and I had the engine replaced with a 130k junk yard engine ($600 with install, + $100 core) anticipating rebuilding the original engine. The "new" engine had a small cam cover gasket leak and a large exhaust leak through the manifold-downpipe gasket. Recently on my birthday the car started dying (electricals flickering) while driving and shifting hard from stop. Upon inspection the gasket leak had grown and the engine oil was nearly dry. I replaced cam cover gasket ("new engine is much better shape than the orig.!!!" and oil soaked serpentine belt because I thought the slipping belt was causing low alternator output. Next day I replaced alternator as i discovered the engine running voltage was the same as engine off voltage. Things were fine for a week until I hear a LOUD squeal during an all day errand running the AC. Car seems fine without the AC so i am thinking compressor clutch pulley bearing has failed. Checking under the hood i notice the serp belt is really loose and recognize the tensioner has given out. I Replaced the floppy broken tensioner today and i am interested in checking out the ECTS and thermostat as i have noticed the temp gage seems "stuck" at 1/4 while operating. From a post on here the bell housing seems to indicate that the "new engine" is a 96. I say seems because the post also indicates the engine is SOHC when it is clearly DOHC. These repairs were my first endeavor into auto maintenance and my parents, the orig. owners, are impressed with the work as they junked the car to me when it first threw the rod. I give all the credit to Richpin for his videos and OldNuc's posts as well.

My '95 SW2 plug wires (AC/Delco) had a 2000 date on them. Even though they had no obvious problems, I figured it was time to replace them. I put new AC/Delco wires on.

The car runs fine, and the same with the new wires as the old ones. How long can wires last if there is no physical damage to them?

I tried to do this..... sprayed the bottom of the cover with some sticky gasket stick stuff, stuck the gasket on the cover, put it on CAREFULLY, tightened the bolts, only to find that the back side of the gasket had come out. Then, I couldn't find the stupid torx socket that I had used, so, it's sitting. Probably going to have to get another gasket tomorrow because, by the time I get the cover off to get the gasket out after work, it'll be deformed,

Go figure, I can tear apart several Jeep trannies and transfer cases and put them back together, but I can't even do a simple valve cover gasket replacement!! Looks like I'll have to sell the Saturn, and give back my Saturn Owner's Card, because I'm not worthy!! I'll get it straight, just frustrated.
