Default Steering wheel swap..

Hey all,

I've had my hoopty (95 sl2) for about six months now (probably need to get it titled and registered ) and i'm getting sick of looking at the popped airbag.... (the dang idiot I bought the car from smashed up the front end!)

I was thinking of puting a "racing" type steering wheel on the car... No I'm not getting "Ricey", I'm just sick of looking at the flap and hole in my steering wheel....I'm also too cheap to buy a new airbag....

Anyone do this? I cant seem to find any info... Did a google search and searched this forum....

TIA

Billy

It would be cheaper to go to the junkyard and buy an airbag.

Killjoy!

Seriously... Just for grins and giggles, how do you do this? Are there special adapters? The Grant Steeringwheel site says there is no option for my SL2

Unfortunatly, unless I'm mistaken, and I don't think I am, It is a FEDERAL OFFENSE to remove a airbag equiped steering wheel from any "STREET" driven vehicle! If a cop stops you and notices an obvious lack of air bag, you are looking at a serious fine! If you can "Upgrade" to another air bag wheel cool. Check with your local MVD/PD. I would love to put a grant GT in mine but not at the cost of a ticket any time its noticed.

Not to doubt you, but I see it all the time around here... Back in Cali it was REAL common for Honda's and Camaro's to have "ricing".... I mean "Racing" type steering wheel's.....

I'll check on the options.... But for knowledge sake..... What kind of adapter do you need to put one of these things on the car?????

Well I could be wrong. But I'm sure I read about that being illegal. I would love to get rid of the big gray blob in front of me!

I hacked up a spare steering wheel to use its hub. Then welded on an adaptor ring that I fabbed up.

Pretty easy to explain. The driver wasnt wearing their seat belt and slammed into the steering wheel because of their stupidity.

Air bag or not, you should be wearing your seatbelt. Or in the case of the original poster a harness if he's going to be racing his car at a track.
