Default Pic of what the new Saturn convertible will look like!

This was what the OPEL version of the Solstice is most likely going to look like and I would expect that the Saturn "Signal" be be virtually identical to the European Opel version of the Solstice.

check it out @

I dont think the "Signal" will look like the more radical and angular Vauxhall lightning concept that is built on the same Solstice chassis.

Check that out @

I could see the Vauxhall version of the Solstice being a Cadillac in the US and sell in the low $40,000's with a small V8 though.

It would be a great sibling to the $80,000 XLR Hardtop convertible.

The solsice and all its variations (Saturn, Opel, Vauxhall and maybe even Cadillac) will all be RWD.

I would guess the base Pontiac ,Saturn, Opel versions will have the 2.4 Ecotech with around 170 hp and an optional 215+ HP supercharged version.

I'm sure Saturn's version will get dumbed down with a cheap interior and blah exterior styling. Heaven forbid Saturn get a GM flagship model. You wouldn't want to steal sales away from Pontiac, now would you?

Why couldn't Saturn have gotten the new Malibu this year as the next L? Why wait an extra year for Saturn to get the Signal? I think GM seriously needs to reinvent Saturn before it dies. Saturn has the best business model of all GM's brands, so why not give them the best products? Why keep pushing products into Chevrolet (it's not like they are starving for vehicle lines) when Saturn is stuck with three models, one of which is on life support?

Just realized: I could try dropping a 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood of the Signal. Just wonder where I would get one.... hmm....

Finally, a use for the Z06.

No, because GM will shove some porky ass motor in there, and fill the doors with lead. The miata is going to be a much sportier, cheaper convertible.

Well, Mazda is ALMOST a domestic automaker these days...it's almost entirely owned by Ford. The Mazda truck is a rebadged Ford Ranger, the Tribute is a rebadged Ford Escape, the next generation Focus will be a rebadged Mazda3, and the next gen. Taurus (Futura)...is based on the Mazda6. Mazda is about as domestic as it is Foreign these days.

Yup... my Miata is even more "foreign" than the cars built today. The car is assembled in Hiroshima, the battery is a Panasonic made in Japan (which, as a side note, are far superior than the ones used nowadays... Mazda realized it was expensive to ship batteries (due to weight etc) across the ocean to North America, so they started using batteries made in the states, but they weren't the same Panasonic Japanese built ones... My car is 12 years old, and on the same original battery... currently 201,000 Kms on it), the light bulbs are all original and from Japan (also said to last longer than most domestic counterparts), and a number of other parts. Granted, the same comment could be said about the Honda Civic, made in Ohio is more domestic than the Cavalier made in Mexico...

Actually, getting off topic here, but I find it funny that by adding a "HONDA" engine to our VUE, the domestic content went up a few points (the original engine was a U.K. built one whereas the Honda is made in the states). I love opening the hood and honda lovers notice the word Honda on the ignition coils...

I can definitely see the red roadster bearing a Saturn badge. Though an XV8 sounds sweet, realistically, the Signal's engine choice would be limited to a version of the global Ecotec four. Hopefully, it will be the 2.4L with variable-valve timing.

I dont get it? Maybe im just on a different wave length than those in the auto industry. But history speakes for it self. Pontiac Fiero,Buick regetta, Caddaliac Allante, Ford EXP,MercuryLn7,Mercury capri, the new Ford Thunderbird. All two seater sports cars lasting two to fives years. First year sales of each were good to excellent.Within five years they were history. Why does Saturn think it will have a customer base in this area which is a VERY difficult selling area since it limits seats to two passangers is beyond me. This will not be a Corvette,or a Z car or a Porsche which have a following and will always sell. I would think past mistakes would of taught G.M . a lesson, but gullitons for punishment they make another Caddliac two seater sports car like the Allante. The trend is pick ups and SUVs and good performing mid size Sedans. That is where I think Saturn should be spending its market investments. Not on two seater sports cars with lame performance. They should sit down with the guys from Ford and take a lesson (new T Bird) about over hypeing a new product which it thinks it can sell the public on. That stradigy has not worked since the Edsel and I dont think it will work with the Saturn Signal .
