Dizzy Rough Idle on a 2000 SL2

I've got a 2000 SL2 with 97xxx miles. I swapped out the radiator on Saturday via Richpin's video. On Sunday, I had driven about 50 miles, stopping for various amounts of time throughout. I started my car when it was warm and I heard the normal starting noise plus a noticable, single click. When the click happened, my SES light came on and it started idling rough immediately. I turned off the car and the SES light has not come on since then. Since then, it has idled rough but it runs smooth when accelerating or at a maintained speed.
This morning, I swapped out the spark plugs (I had NGK V-Powers that were about a year old - +/- 20K). I have not swapped the spark plug cables yet. The idle was immediately smooth, but the rough idle came back quickly. I took it into my mechanic and he "tested everything" and couldn't find anything wrong. In addition, the rough idle went away while he had it and while I was driving it home.
Fifteen minutes later, I started my car and the idle has resumed its roughness. I drove it about ten miles or so and the rough idle never went away.

Please guys, I really hope someone can help! I'm driving from az to colorado tomorrow and I need a hand with this. Thanks!!!

...
Dan

Without the SES error code, its guessing.

Failed engine coolant temperature sensor (ECTS)? Use the Forum Jump below to find all the information about it.

Egr valve sticking open at idle when its supposed to be closed? The only way to test this is to make a temporary (soda can or two quarters) blocking gasket held in place with the egr valve to completely block off the twp ports underneath the egr valve. Either the idle will go away immediately or not.
