Default rough idle on 2000 sl1

Hi, My daughter's 2000 SL1 idles rough for a few seconds after startup. I have already replaced the intake gasket, plugs and wires. Any ideas? The car has 160,000 miles

Replaced the ECTS yet? Cleaned the throttlebody? If you haven't done either of those, do both. Even if it's not the cause of the problem (either of which could be), it's good maintenance.

I have changed the ets, but have not cleaned the throttle body. I will try that--thank you

Are you on the origional fuel filter? It's likely due if it's origional. The brands recommended around here are Wic and the dealer one. Easy to swap and ther is a video in the how-to section.

If you hit the forum search you can find how to get a pressure tester and diagnose.

The likelihood of that being the cause of the issue isn't as likely, but it would still be a good idea if it hasn't been changed in a long time. Especially if you cannot remember if it was ever done.

Another thing that may help is to take your EGR valve off and make sure the pintle is moving freely, and give it a good cleaning.

I've had a rough idle on mine too. I've done what these folks have suggested so far with the cleaning and what-not, but it still persists. I took a reading of my manifold vacuum and found that it was good, but rapidly fluctuating between a couple psi on either side. The gauge should read a steady value all the time. It was suggested that I might either have a stuck intake valve or a burnt exhaust valve. I've done a straight-up techron treatment through the PCV connection to try and clean up the valve, and that's helped out with my power, but the rough idle is still there (actually seems to have gotten worse). I need to do a compression test next to see if I do indeed have a burnt valve (which will be a new thread...probably...need the new job to kick in before I can get one).

Not sure if you'll have to go this far, and I would definitely try the above suggestions, but just keep the possibility back the corner of your mind before going crazy and changing all sorts of different parts.
