1998 SL2
Default muffler strap

My daughters car did not pass insp.It seems it need a tie rod end and a muffler strap.I took care of the tierod,but I want to know if any body knows if I can get the muffler band myself,and put it on myself.I think they want the strap to go around muffler,and secured to hanger.thankyou 97sc2

YES. But get the muffler strap and self tapping bolt FROM SATURN. Aftermarket straps are not strong enough and will result in the exhaust sagging and banging on the rear suspension cross member eventually.

I just put one one my daughter's 96 SL2 last weekend. It is not that bad a job to do. Results are worth it.

NAPA has a universal strap for around $4 that will do the job. If you look above the muffler there's a "box" that the strap will pass through and around the muffler like a belt.

Yes. Buy the muffler strap from your local Saturn retailer.

Just had muffler strap replaced at Saturn on 2000 SL2, cost $69.63. Of course, they wanted to sell me two new front tires and front brakes and rotors, too. The car only has 25,000 miles on it.

The dealer told me there was a change in mufflers in 98 year they need the vin# of the car

Assuming your car is a 1997 SC2, the part number for the strap is 21006860 and the part number for the L shaped bracket that it mates with is 21013041. We usually replace both at once.
