Default removing the antenna?

I would like to unscrew the antenna and was told that I could do this very easily... well, after spinning it endlessly it's still attached.. is there something I'm missing? How the heck do I get the antenna off?

Default Re: removing the antenna?

When I saw this, I was just going to say unscrew it. On a previous car, it was loose, and just tightened it with vice grips, but I guess removing it must be a different story. After you loosened it, were you at least able to tighten it back up?

Question Re: removing the antenna?

So I take it the antenna can't be removed and re-wired. I was thinking of removing mine an putting a VW fuba antenna like the Acura MDX Can this be done? what do you guys think? I think it would look really good.

A 7mm open ended wrench fits the non-round part of the antenna to remove it. It basically screws on. --See image...this is the part you are describing?

It may have been overtorqued and stripped somehow. They ship [the car] without the antenna attached. Part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection by the techs is to attach it.

Question Re: removing the antenna?

Yes that is the part. I would like to fill in the hole that is left and paint it to match the body and put the antenna on the roof like the Acura MDX

I was thinking of using the antenna and associated parts from a L-Series Wagon, since it is already configured for placement on the rear roof. I haven't priced the parts new, I'd guess that a junk yard would have a L-Series Wagon that could be cannibalized.

Yeah, that's the part I was unscrewing... but it just kept spinning. I scored it at one point to make sure I wasn't loosing my mind and the line didn't move. I took off the rubber gasket and the plastic housing looks cracked. Will it pull out?

It's certainly worth a shot pulling on it--the threads on the antenna base are a seperate piece from the antenna base itself. It also appears to be the same case with the antenna too. Maybe some WD-40 may help?

If all else fails, you may end up removing the panel to access the underside.

My antenna always gets loose, I can unscrew it with my fingers without a problem. I don't know why, but I never thought of taking a wrench to it. *duh*
