![]() Hey guys, just a shoutout, thanks, to all of you through the years that posted about the bad Throttle Position Sensor symptoms; I had random high idle, 1,200 to 1,700 rpms, no readily located leaks with carb cleaner, and if you shut the car off and restart it, normal idle would return, just for a while anyways. The high idle would also come down if you touched or wiggled the wires up near the TPS plug at the throttle body.
Went to AutoZone, picked up a $30 TPS, installed it, and for the last two weeks have enjoyed perfect running and idle! Thanks again guys, you know who you are... Now I've got a starter gear that takes a sec to disengage after starting, so I hear a loud 'ZING' until it releases from the flywheel. I know, it's probably an easy fix, but another weekend project; check the spring strength, and solenoid for dirt interference, and clean it...? Any recommendations on a good quality starter solenoid or do I have to replace the whole dang starter? Autozone?

![]() I'll have to try this with mine. My car will high idle sometimes too. It hasn't been bothersome enough to really fix, so far. I'm starting to suspect that it's effecting the downshifting of the transmission, however.

![]() Mine's a manual, but I can only guess how it'd affect an auto! Mine didn't idle too much higher at first, put up with it for a couple months. Then it went up to 1,500 rpm, then 1,800. That was my breaking point...

![]() Its your call, $25-30 for an autozone solenoid, or seeing you have over 170K on what might be the original starter, I myself would just spend the $51 and get a whole new starter from dbelectrical which will last you a lonnnnnnng time.

![]() The solenoid is built into the starter, I don't believe separately available to replace even if you have the know how. If it is available separately it'll be on DBElectrical's site and likely cost 60-70% of the new starter cost which includes the solenoid.
Might as well replace the whole thing since everything has to come out.

![]() ^^ not that I recommend replacing one, but they seem to be available for $20 for those somewhat inclined.
