Default Rear Main Seal

I have a 1996 SL2 for my daily driver. It's leaking oil like no other. I'm just wondering where can I find this on my car. Thanks alot.

It's leaking from somewhere in the back of the engine. If anyone have any more suggestions on what it could be let me know. Thanks alot.

the tranaxle needs to be seperated from the engine in order to get to the rear main.

If your car is a manual you need a new clutch.

At the back of the engine it could be the rear main seal or the quill (input shaft bearing seal) seal in the trans or possibly the oil pan.

Could you be more specific. Do you mean that is come down the back of the engine, onto the oil pain, and then dripping ??? For if that is the case, you might want to check the top of the engine, rear left valve cover. There is a spot near that corner where oil will leak, after time (assuming your cam cover gasket was changed a long time ago. To confirm this, or confirm that is not leaking from there, during the evening, take a flash light and check out that area. Just a thought.....to consider

Yes it's a five speed, it leaks right over the exhaust and falls right onto it. I just replaced the valve cover gasket, and it still leaks.

If it is leaking onto the top of the exhaust manifold then really the only place it could be coming from would be the valve cover gasket. If it's down lower and leaking onto the exhaust pipe going under the engine then most of what I mentioned in my last post could be the source but I would lean more towards the oil pan. Get a spray bomb of engine shampoo and spray everything down and wash it off. Keep an eye on it to see if you can trace the source down.

As has been so stongly stressed, when changing the cam cover gasket, it is very important to clean, thoroughly, the mating services of the cover and engine block, for not to do so, results in what appears to be your issue.

A Thought...
