Default Stainless Exhaust Tubing?

Does anyone make this for the S series? I have a 97 sl2 and my exhaust seems to only be lasting 20k or so. I see walker now has a ss muffler.

Just thought I'd ask here. Had a problem with my coils and everyone here was very helpful. Thanks!

Thermal R&D sells a stainless cat-back. The OEM exhaust was also stainless. You can also buy stainless bends & piece together your own exhaust system to have welded up at a shop. In fact, most exhaust shops should be able to give you the option of using stainless, so all you have to do is drop off the car & tell them what you want. Or you can order the bends online - I bought mine from here.

yeah, i called a few local shops here and they all said it would be stupidly expensive to make me a stainless setup.

sure because they want you to keep replacing your exhaust preferably at their place. i agree to check out the thermal exhaust. it's nice & made from 304 stainless & won't discolor & slowly rot like the factory stainless. sure you can buy stainless tubing but it won't do you any goiod unless you have a bending machine.

I have a bead former for those fancy connectors...so you wouldn't have to weld everything into one piece.

Do a search using "Bead Form"
.030" Annealed Stainless Steel Tubing

it's probably easier to just buy a complete kit such as the
Thermal exhaust. looks like a good system. i'm surprised Borla doesn't make a saturn exhaust...

Their must have been a lot of variation in the factory parts.
My 97 (145,000 miles) has the original system pretty much intact, the only part that has corroded away was the muffler strap.

The muffler body looks a bit ratty but isn't
leaking yet.

it just depends on where the car was driven & how it was driven which dictates how long the exhaust lasts. short drives in cold weather would kill an exhaust in a short time.....

This car was used for commuting to high school and on college campuses by my kids for most of its life. Now I'm retired and most of my trips are under 5 miles. And even with "glo-bull" warming it gets fairly cold here in Indy. So I must have the best pipes Saturn's supplier ever made.

Borla made a Saturn exhaust system several years ago. They sold maybe 3 or 4 of them... I got one and made it fit my 92 SC. SPS got one I think. The Borla was nice and the muffler supplied was smaller and lighter than the muffler supplied with the Thermal RD on my 02 SC2. The Thermal is nice and shiny.

the key is to make sure the exhaust gets hot enough to burn off any moisture & acids before the car is shut off so they don't just sit in the exhaust & rot it away. long trips where the exhaust gets very hot & dry inside is best...

of course it's *easier* to buy a complete kit. But, what's the cost comparison? I don't know, as I didn't spring for the stainless since I live in a desert, so my exhaust was definitely cheaper than the thermal.

living in a dessert is one way to make your exhaust last longer!

Well, I emailed them a few days ago and haven't heard back yet. Maybe they don't want to sell to me?

that thermal exhaust is what i would buy for my car if my factory exhaust ever goes. it's still original including the muffler strap.
how much did it set you back? mine would be around the same cost it's the same exhaust. is it 304 stainless?
