2000 L-Series 3.0L Wagon
2004 L-Series 3.0L Wagon
Default Any way to clean the air intake?

I have a 2000 LW2.
Last Sunday, I took off the air cleaner box and spray some gumout into the throttle butterfly. A lot of dirt came out. I prop the butterfly open and spray some more into it. It seem there's a whole lot more dirt's still in there. Is there any easy way to clean that area and perhaps also clean the runners a little farther down?
Thanks.

Are you wanting to clean the air cleaner box and tube?

Assuming your 3.0L?

If so,
Remove all the tubing,
remove the Mass air flow sensor
Clean airbox and tubing with mineral spirits.
Clean Mass air flow sensor with MAF cleaner. (Do no touch the little wires they are brittle).

If you are talking cleaning deeper into the throttle body, buy a gasket from the auto store and remove the throttle body, and give it a good cleaning with some TB cleaner.

I want to clean the other side of the butterfly, but I don't want to break anything. The check engine light came on and gave a P1516 code. I cleared it; the wagon seems to run OK.
What gasket do I need? What is TB cleaner?

TB cleaner = Throttle Body cleaner

As for the gasket, should be availible at any auto store, you'll need a throttle body to intake gasket.

Only think I can think of is to be careful of the wire clips so you don't break them off. Once you replace the throttle body gasket make sure both surfaces are clean and free of old gasket material.
