I think the VUEs should be fix as well. I have complained to the NHTSA about the VUE and the ION about the electric steering.

I e-mailed GM Canada, their Customer Service Rep. called me back the next day to tell me; yes the ION uses part recalled on the Cobalt/Pursuit/G5, no we are currently not recalling the ION because it's not an issue on them. WTF I'm not impressed with GM at this point. They're specifically ignoring Saturn owners on this issue.

If they use the same part and that part is what is failing on the other cars, how is it not an issue on the Ion? Wow, they are really bright at GM.

Ha....lovely reply...

Greetings from the Saturn Customer Assistance Center! We appreciate the time you have taken to write us inquiring why Saturn IONs are not included in the recent power steering recall.

We understand your troubles regarding GMs recent announcement of a voluntary recall on 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalts. The coming recall was for a condition where the driver may experience a loss of power steering assist most noticeably while driving in slower speed parking lot maneuvers under 15 miles per hour.

If the power steering assist is lost, a warning lamp illuminates and a chime sounds to inform the driver. Steering control would be maintained, as the vehicle reverts to a manual steering mode, but would require greater driver effort at low vehicle speeds.

If your vehicle is currently exhibiting these symptoms, we encourage you to contact your local Saturn dealer or service provider. Further details regarding this recall announcement are still pending. If your vehicle is involved, a notification letter will be mailed by Saturn to advise what steps you need to take.

In relation to this, when General Motors receive a number of complaints for the same vehicle concern, our engineers conduct an investigation. After determining common factors such as parts involved, symptoms exhibited, causes, and necessary repairs, GM identifies from which manufacturing plant these vehicles are made, the vehicle batch during production then comes up with a list of vehicles involved. This is why recalls are vehicle specific determined through the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This means that not all vehicles of a certain year, make and model are necessarily affected.

Moreover, a recall or related bulletin is released as a preventive or corrective measure to address the problem. Owners of involved vehicles are notified via registered mail advising them what steps to take.

Due to the nature of your inquiry, it is apparent that contacting you by telephone would give us a better opportunity to assist you. We will call you today, March 5, 2010 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time. If that is not a good time, please respond to this message with the best date and time that we may contact you.

In addition, please provide the following information when we discuss about your vehicle:

* Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of your ION:
* Current mileage on the vehicle:
* Saturn/GM dealer you work with:

This information is necessary to document your concern and ensure that you will be appropriately notified for any future update specific to your vehicle. We are looking forward to speak with you as we attempt to assist you in a timely manner.

We hope that this information had been helpful to you. If you should need to contact us, simply reply to this email or call our Saturn Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-553-6000. Customer Relationships Specialists are available Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Eastern Time.

Tubagod,

I find your reply to our problem total GM b.s.

A) You Say "If your vehicle is currently exhibiting these symptoms, we encourage you to contact your local Saturn dealer or service provider. Further details regarding this recall announcement are still pending. If your vehicle is involved, a notification letter will be mailed by Saturn to advise what steps you need to take." What are the drivers that are no longer in warranty do since that would be most IONs now? (Pay the 100.00 diag fee and what ever it cost to fix) since we are not included.

B) You Say "In relation to this, when General Motors receive a number of complaints for the same vehicle concern, our engineers conduct an investigation. This means that not all vehicles of a certain year, make and model are necessarily affected." I find it very funny that is is only from a small batch as you say above. They used the same part in cobalts from 2005-2010. That seems like a very large batch! It is also funny that the ION & the VUE use the same part! So you are telling me that GM made two different same parts, ya right. Second if this turns into a TSB for Saturn owners then the owner has to pay for it which is b.s. as well. GM knows most IONs and VUEs are nolonger under warranty so they are just screwing the Saturn owners.

C) GM has been mailing me things like "We want you to stay in the GM family" Well this does not feel to family like, it is more like we are garbage!

D) Tubagod you want to fix this, HAVE GM DO THE RIGHT THING and get the ION and VUE on the recall list.

SaturnIONSLVUE, pretty sure the HHR also uses the same steering motor, not recalled however.

Tubagod's post was a posting of GM's response, not their own personal response. Not sure if you're replies to it are meant toward him/her or toward GM.

Everyone just calm down a second. I am NOT a GM employee. That was their automated email response to my initial question.

I did receive a call from their customer service personnel as stated in their reply. The customer service lady stated that they are currently "Investigating" the extensiveness of the problem and that the Ion has not been ruled out yet.

As Ion owners, all we can do is continue to question their recall and report any power steering issues you may have had in the past.

Thats exactly what it is. IMO it's BS that they left the Ion and HHR out of this. Yet they and everyone else knows that they use the same column. If Saturn or GM thinks that this is not a problem, tell them be sure to tell them to refer to the following TSBs when contacting. Infact let the NHTSA know when contacting them and ask them why the Cobalt and G5 was only recalled on this.

Service Bulletin Number : 070232007
NHTSA Item Number : 10022958

Service Bulletin Number : 050235007
NHTSA Item Number : 10020951

Service Bulletin Number : 050232002
NHTSA Item Number : 10020740

Only a thing with the Cobalt and G5 my ass. Sure they may have moved quiker with this since there are more Cobalts out there, it's the Hertz fleet mobile afterall, but everyone out there should speak up and let them know to take action on all vehicles that are listed in these bulletins

This is the part GM is recalling not the Steering shaft. When you go to the website it now has two products listed the new one and the old one. So GM knows it was bad on the IONs as well.
