Question Unmangling speaker wiring on 2000 LS1

I am trying to unmangle the speaker wiring on my 2000 LS1. The previous owner left things in a horrible state. For almost all 4 speakers, the factory wiring is ripped and cut up, and any semblance of factory connectors is replaced by cheapo 14 gauge wiring. I want to fix this and fix this right, so I want to try to find OEM parts if viable.

Are the wires that run from the speaker to the main door wiring harness part of one removable unit? As in, could I swap one from a parts car and bring the wiring system back to stock format? If this option doesn't exist, how could I go about making a long lasting and reliable setup that won't kink or become undone over the lifespan of me opening and closing the door?

Your going to have to get a Haynes or Chilton book for the Saturn model and look at the wiring schematics to find how it is wired. Trying to help this wiring combination rat nest will be a disaster on the forum. Those books will give you the wiring colors and where each goes.

Yes, you can remove the wiring harness from an L-Series door and swap it into another. It's possible, however, that if the harness comes from the front doors of a car that has the advanced sound system that there may be no wires for the tweeter as they're not used in the front doors with that system. The harness also includes the wiring for the door lock, power window, and door light if equipped. (Don't take a harness from an LS or L100 without power windows.)

Even the factory wiring harnesses eventually show wear and tear on their contents between the pillar and the doors especially between the center pillar and the rear doors. The improvement one might make in that space is to splice in a larger gauge wire that could withstand the bending more easily.

I would just throw in my 5 cents on this and say that the OEM speakers are built down to a price and as your speakers (if original) are now 20 years old, the paper cones and foam flex rings will have perished by now. I replaced the speakers on my son's 2003 L300 as we could tell his speakers had gone to heaven.

What you will find is that the connectors that Saturn used to connect the wiring to the speakers are specifically for that purpose. The connectors will NOT work on replacement speakers, so you are forced to add new connectors to the speakers as most if not all simply come with male spade connectors. So you are into cutting off the OEM connector and splicing in a new compatible female space connectors whether you like it or not.

Just keep in mind you are driving a 20 year old car that was last produced in 2004 and the Saturn company closed down in 2008. Creativity now comes to the fore in keeping these cars on the road.

My wife turned more then one set of speakers into confetti listening to Levi Parham's song, "wrong way to hold a man" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQf8z_hXKHU Strong bass shredded the stock speakers.

SRGW,
No need to say sorry. It's me who must apologize to you. I saw your post then immediately saw all the SL1 references below, so it looked like that was the post for S series. Of course, had I opened the diagrtams I would have seen it said LS1. Sorry! Innocent mistake on my part.
