Default Water drain hole in OE muffler?

Hi guys,

I've got a 94' SC2 that I have to complete the annual state inspection this month and during my usual walkaround I found there is a small 1/16" hole in the muffler directly under where the exhaust exits right near the weld seam at the bottom of the muffler. There is definitely a tiny bit of exhaust coming out of it, but it looks like it has always been there and there is NO rust around the hole so it looks intentional. I just want to know before the guys at the shop try to sell me a new muffler or something.

If someone punched a hole in it in order to help it drain, then I need to patch it up(but it's a good idea actually). If it's the OE design then I can't wait to rag on the shop guys when they try to fail me on it.

Thanks,

Bryan

My '93, and a few parts cars I've torn down all had the same hole. Obviously it's supposed to be there.

Odd, the Saturn dealer could not give me a clear answer on this one.
