Default Rear lateral link bolts...

I have a '97 rear suspension that I'm going to redo and put under my '95 SW2 next spring as part of a suspension rebuild. I was wondering why they put the rearmost bolts in from inside the crossmember (where you can easily get them out), but put the forward bolts in from the outside (where you have to either drop the gas tank or the suspension to get them out, and use a torx bit to boot)? They will easily install from the inside and save a lot of hassle, just curious why they did it this way.

Change the whole rear crossmember with the suspension, it'll be a lot easier.

That's what I'm going to do, since I have the whole thing...will be a lot easier/faster to rebuild it on the workbench and swap it out, I just thought it was strange that they made those forward bolts inaccessible like that.

When the car is assembled at the factory, the rear suspension goes on BEFORE the gas tank. Consider if you were under the car suspened above you with the gas tank removed, would it be faster and easier to install the bolts/nuts the way they are? Question answered?
