Default leaning out the a/f mixture

Hi,

I was wondering if there are any ways short of getting something like an super afc to lean out the a/f mixture. Would an adjustable fuel regulator work? I am looking at getting some cams, which I know will make the already rich mixture richer, and am trying to find a less expensive way than the super afc to fix it.

Thanks,
Oddjob

Bigger cams will want more fuel, you'll prolly be alright. As for leaning it an OEM adjustable FPR won't do much. I used the IAT trick before getting a better solution. Basically you vary a resistance on the IAT signal line to tell the engine its breathing hotter air than it is. Thus it'll lean out the mix. Down side is it retards timing also( but not much), it works best when its cold out, and you might get an SES light. It was good for about a tenth faster in the 1/8th when it worked. You'll also need a wide-band A/F guage to see what your doing. You should have one of those anyways if your into tuning your car.

what model and year saturn do you have? you can use a hypertech #8004 (or is it #4008? going from memory here) adjustible fpr on the 91-94 dohc saturns and it's an easy swap. 95-97 have an adjustible fpr from the factory that you can use a safety/tamper torx bit to adjust. on 98-02 well... good luck.

Hi,

It is a 1994 sl2. I was thinking about putting on a 95-97 fpr, but I does anyone know if I would have to put in a new fuel rail or if the newer model fpr would just bolt in?

Thanks,
Oddjob

Not sure, but I do have a whole new intake manifold powdercoated silver, with the adj. FPR and fuel rail for sale for $100.

the 95-97 fpr will not work on your 94. get the hypertech adjustible fpr. it's a direct swap.

Hi,

Do you know who sells the hypertech adjustable fpr for the 94 saturns?

Thanks,
Tim
