DO NOT buy the one on ebay for G6/Malibu. It says it fits 3.6L G6 and Malibu, so I figured it would work on my XR. because they are similar. Unfortunately engine design is just different enough that it wont fit.

Please let me know if you find a different one that will work

Im going to do this mod to my XR. Iv already removed my exhaust resonator and replaced it with straight pipe. it gave me a much deeper sound so i wonder how it will sound with this mod as well

Hey, so I went ahead and removed my resonator bong and it took about 10 minutes. Not to shabby!
Now, the thing is, I once upon a time bumped into someone and a little corner of the underside black plastic snapped off. So now I have a direct feed of outside air coming in with the resonator bong removed it's going straight to the airbox. I have some pictures. Should I close it up? Would it be a good way to bring in cold outside air? It's pretty solid and doesn't move at highway speeds. I got an intake coming in a week and I was going to fabricate my own heatshield. I was thinking it would benefit the intake as I am sitting the cone about the same spot as the airbox. The roads are still wet and snowy but I hit a decent puddle, went through some slush and snow and everything seemed good. Not very wet near the filter.

I wasn't going to change the filter since I have the new setup coming. Only the water drops on the corner not the general uglyness.

I bought th eBay one for $65 + shipping, and it fits. The G6/Malibu is correct in that the engine layout is about identical to the aura (Seller: chromeintakes). Another user and I hashed out the details of installing it, and you can see his finished look here:

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=191430

I am going to post soon once I have all of my photos. I have yet to do the bong delete, but I shall do it to go with the CAI installation. The comments he made about the response of the vehicle are dead on.

I have removed the resonator bong to complement the chromeintakes CAI that I mentioned before. I love the sound under the hood now. It does sound meaner.

to anyone that is thinking about doing this Ill give you some advice! Remove top of air box, remove air filter, grab some duck tape! I used gorilla tape. rip off to pieces about 6in each and place in inside of tube over the hole for the bong. now you have a deleted resonator in under 2min!!! pat yourself on the back.. I did this to my car 3 years ago and tape is still holding strong and the air path is much cleaner with tape forming to the air tube.

Do you mean to say you took the negative battery CAble and attached it to the positive battery post?

I've always disconnected both+/- cables and connected them together- that way, any stray 12v in the system goes to ground.

The way your quote reads- you connected ground cable to 12V on the battery.

The whole idea of leaving the hole open is to allow colder air to reach the intake. By covering the hole you have just cut off the incoming air to the filter box. I would imagine it will actually hurt the performance rather than improve doing it this way.

Instead of removing this has anyone tried either cutting the box off of the bottom but leaving the rest of the pipe in place? My thoughts is this would create a type of ram air to the filter unit. Any thoughts?

So I did the bong delete today, took about 10 minutes total. Since I don't have the fog lights I used the opening to my advantage. I cut the slots out of the plastic insert to allow air into the fender and more forcefully into the hole for the air filter. Next I plan to run a pipe from this hole in the fog light area to a flange adapter I will make that will be mounted under the filter box, don't want all that air moving the fender around too much or possibly dislodge the rivets destroying the inner wheel well plastic. I will also change the filter to a more performance type to allow better flow. I may try and switch it over to an intake setup and just allow the cone filter to sit over top of the hole for the old filter. Will post pics when I make a final decision.

Note You can see after removing the bong that NOTHING is affected as far as the risk to the engine. The inlet to the air filter is actually higher so there's an even less chance of taking on water, and it's still before the filter, so there's no more chance of getting debris into the engine.

4) Put the shroud back in, wheel back on, and lower the car.

5) Purchase a K&N (or similar) air filter to go into the stock air box, installation is straightforward. Remove the two metal clips at the top (closest to the windshield, visible in the first video in this post) side of the box above the filter and pull up on the top portion. It flexes easily to allow access to the filter.

6) Enjoy! Most people who have done this mod, or installed a CAI in a car, will tell you the first couple of things they notice are the sound and the better throttle response.

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy! (+rep appreciated )[/QUOTE]

I know this thread is 8 years old, but it would have been nice had you included a photo of your final K&K - or whatever- filter in place.

I should have searched this before I did it. Before I got my intake 😂
But now I have a short ram with cold air extension with no stupid pointless plastic/extras in the engine bay. Was good learning plus got my own unique twist to anyway(more weight reduction) 😂 not bad if I say myself 😂
