Default Saturn Aura reliability (please sign up if you're new)

Because existing sources of vehicle reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.

Thanks to the help of Saturnfans and its members, for which I am very grateful, the Aura has been one of the best represented models, with over 100 owners signed up. As a result, TrueDelta was able to provide reliability information on the Aura before anyone else.

But more participants would still be helpful. The larger the sample size, the more accurate the results and the more detail I can provide.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results for free.

It's been three months, so the Vehicle Reliability Survey results for the Saturn AURA have been updated again.

Repair rates, in terms of successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year:

2007: 92, worse than average

2008: 34, better than average

So far the 2008 clearly requires repairs less often than the 2007.

Excellent participation by AURA owners, especially of the 2007, but more participants would be even better. Especially need 2009s.

The latest Car Reliability Survey results were recently posted. The reported number of repair trips per 100 cars per year for the AURA:

2007: 80, about average, but near "worse than average"

2008: 41, about average, but near "better than average"

We've had good participation, especially for the 2007 (96 responses), so it appears that the 2008 requires only about half as many repairs as the 2007, at least so far. This can probably be chalked up to "first model year."

A big thanks to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May, August, and November. Additional participants would be helpful, especially for the 2009.

We now have a separate results page for each model that includes the results for competitors. The one for the AURA:

You got 80 people to sign up is what your saying. I have to say your site is about as useless as a live boneless chicken.

Maybe you meant "as useful"? No idea where the 80 came from. We have about 25,000 active participants in the car reliability survey.

I somehow lost track of this thread, and have been posting updated results in another one.

We've now updated our reliability stats for the AURA to include owner experiences through June 30, 2013. (Another source is about 14 months behind.)

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009 AURA: 33, low
2008 AURA: 63, moderate
2007 AURA: 61, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2008 AURA: 50, 4
2007 AURA: 69, 7

We'll have further updates in November and February.

New stuff this time. We've updated our reliability stats for the AURA to include owner experiences through the end of 2014. Plus we've added reliability trends graphs. These indicate how a model's reliability has changed as it has aged, and how different model years performed when the same age.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2009 AURA: 104, high, small sample size
2008 AURA: 74, moderate
2007 AURA: 73, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2008 AURA: 50, 4
2007 AURA: 41, 4

We'll have further updates in May and in August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

Our reliability stats for the AURA now cover the year ending June 30, 2015. (Others are over a year behind, and so report how these cars were doing when a year younger.) Repair trips per 100 cars:

2009 AURA: 93, high, small sample size
2008 AURA: 64, moderate
2007 AURA: 36, low

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2008 AURA: 62, 4

We've updated our reliability stats for the AURA to include owner experiences through June 30, 2016. Reliability information elsewhere is based on a survey conducted in April 2015--well over a year ago.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year (lower is better):

2009 AURA: 106, high, small sample size
2008 AURA: 70, moderate, small sample size
2007 AURA: 67, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2007 AURA: 57, 4
