2007 AURA XR
Default Saturn sells 5,841's Aura's in December. Saturn up 42% overall.

Saturn sold 5841 Aura's in December. Saturn was up 42% overall. Aura is still doing decently. Hoping it will reach 7K in January. I will cry my heart out if this beautiful vehicle can't outsell the L-Series by next year. So far there are 19,746 Aura's on the road today.

I'm hoping for 10K by March. 20K per month for the new Malibu

What were the total L-Series sales in the first twelve months?

How do you know that? A few may have been totalled or otherwise taken out of commission!

Just a small note...

The L-series started production in May '99 with no sibling on the production line (that I know of), hence sales (or, rather, deliveries) ramped up earlier. Production of the Malibu was in full swing at Fairfax, so AURA production was limited at first.

And for those who love bad news, the progressively lower post-peak sales numbers, without the monthly detail...

Total 2002 Sales: 81172
Total 2003 Sales: 64957
Total 2004 Sales: 19453
Total 2005 Sales: 5036

I can't see how the AURA couldn't do better than this, since it's 1) actually somewhat marketed and 2) actually competitive.

These numbers show how important reliability is. 2000-2001 sold well, showing how much existing Saturn owners wanted a larger car. It was a new car and people were expecting it to run like the S-series. Later years show the poor reliability so the former S owners who now had Ls were frustrated and went to a different company.

Won't happen for sure. Maybe '09 of we're lucky.

I think GM would be thrilled just to break 100k in its first year. They estimate 80k sales for the first year, so this is so far on track for at least meeting expectations.

My dealer has >30 sitting lot. People shouldn't have a hard time finding one. 80k-100k seems low to me for this car. It would have to have quality issues to remain that low. Saturn should be able to sell 80k-100k just to old Saturn customers alone.

My dealer has over 40 Ions sitting on the backup lot. Looks Like Saturn is purging the Ion to dealers to make room for the Astra.

In fact, I saw one smashed up in Michigan about a month after they hit the market. It was a pretty sad sight.

They sold nearly 100,000 L series cars a year? That's way better than I thought they sold. Does that put them in the top 10 best selling cars that year?

For 2000 and 2001, yes. They were probably previous S-series owners and experimental buyers dabbling in the next new thing from the domestics. You can see that didn't carry on long.

As far as being top 10, I doubt it. The Malibu, Impala, Cavalier, Century, LeSabre, Alero, Grand Am, Grand Prix, and even the S-series outsold the L. And that's not even counting Camry, Corolla, Accord, Civic, Taurus, and Focus; among others. I'd put it around 20th at best.
