I'll buy that - makes sense. We'll have two categories, as stated.

I have over 21 years of Saturn ownership myself, which I can roughly add over 90K miles to for the "Total Dedication To SATURN" category vs. "Individual Saturn Car" category.

1993 SW2
Default Re: S-Series Mileage Milestones 100k 150k 200k 250k and beyond

Do other Saturn models count? I have an L series.

Revising my original estimate for my 1993 SW2, it had, I believe around 67K when I bought it 15 years ago. It now has 143K, so my total is 76K. My mileage points plus the 15 years ownership makes a total of (rounded) 19 points.

My L-series, I've had for 14+ years (purchased new) and it has 105K on it. Rounded, that also is 19 points. Prior to my L-series, I had a 1999 SW2 which I had for not quite 2 years and had approx 30K on it, so 3.5 points (round up for 1/2 to 4?)

So my total Saturn dedication points are 42.

Now if we really want to measure Saturn dedication, we could take into account the things people do to save/preserve their Saturns. THere are a couple who have done full restorations (Scotty6486, for example). I've replaced my transaxle (after modding my diff) after my first one blew a diff pin, replaced my subframe and welded in a new door sill on the right side (and will be doing the left side, I hope, soon). How about those who overhaul their engines, or do significant rust repairs? Of course, it would be really hard to put a number to that!

...
Saturns:
1993 SW2 MT 204,000 hard Boston city miles ("Rozzie")
Gone but not forgotten:
2001 LW300 ("Elle")
1999 SW2 MT
Project cars:
1966 Corvair Monza convertible
1928 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan

A great point. I think for every year of non S Series Saturn ownership we should deduct 5 points per year!

Seriously though, a valid point. As for repairs, rebuilds, restorations, that would be hard to consider. Many do it for financial reasons as it's still cheaper than buying a new car or good used car, but then we would also have to look at the why they did it factor. Was the engine rebuilt because they abused it or another previous owner abused it? It might be a slippery slope.

And I'm not going to be near the top (or bottom) no matter how we calculate things, so it really doesn't matter to me.

1995 SL1 - original owners
150K plus, but still not 151K

By my math and formula everyone that reads this should send me $500. Small unmarked bills please.

Why stop at the moon? Saturn is only 745,407,000 miles farther!

I just hit 225k in my 1998 SL2 auto. It's getting pretty tired, but still runs well enough to keep for a while...mileage has dropped to 28-30 from 32-34 as of late, however.

YMMV but I have been dosing my fuel with TCW3 rated 2 cycle oil for the last ~75k miles and on highway trips can achieve 40 mpg. Also emissions at the DEQ appear to be much improved. For a while now I have been dosing at much more than the recommended 640:1 ratio. Like at up to 200:1. I change plugs at around 20k miles and they look fine.

It dropped 4mpg when I replaced my worn out Michelin x-radials with Toyo Extensa A/S. I also have somewhat low compression after 226k. I have one more engine on hand, I may just daily drive the Benz for a week or so and swap it this winter.

No, it is a beautiful example, and I run it almost exclusively on propel diesel HPR. Its synthetic diesel and as close as you can get to a perfect fuel. Veggie oil can cause major issues, especially on the newer engines.

Hence
a 30 year old car with 200K miles would have 50 points.
a 15 year old car with 300K miles would have 30 points.
a 10 year old car with 500K miles would have 35 points.
a 10 year old car with 800K miles would have 50 points.

It is just as hard to keep a car for a long time (maybe harder) than it is to put miles on it.
Based on the point system we (most of us) approved, I'm now at:

25 points for my 2002 SL2

38 points for all Saturns owned in lifetime (94 SL1, 99 SL2, 02 SL2)

-- 25 for the 02
-- 5 for the 99
-- 8 for the 94

...

Default Re: S-Series Mileage Milestones 100k 150k 200k 250k and beyond

Wow!

Years owned--21 in March
Mileage (this one knocks me out of the running for anything but "newbie" class) ...128,000

As of today ... 20.7 (@ 1 pt/yr. of ownership)+ 6.4 (at 1 point for every 20,000 miles driven)

Does 27.1 sound about correct?

REWARD EXCELLENCE!
