It has been quite a while since I did much work on my 91. I have mostly been collecting parts, both NOS and trips to the local pull it yard. Currently the hang up is lack of a place organize parts from the car during work, and a crazy work schedule. But otherwise car is in a shelter out of the elements until I can put time into it..

Also in a new turn of events, my kid got his learning permit and a couple weeks ago we picked up a green 95 SL2 with 70k miles on it. I am pretty sure it was an old person car who kept it in a garage. No rust on any of the usual spots. Some scratches on it, look like just from setting things on it or maybe a dog jumping up on it. But otherwise clean. The driver seat back was somewhat loose, ( apparently there was a recall on these at one time? ) last week we took a ride to the pull it yard, and found a nice pair of seats from a gen2. ( I had to reuse the old seatbelt locks ) and today we put in 4 new speakers and a head unit..

Working at a salvage yard, the issue I see with them is the newer engines that are direct injection and have a cam driven fuel pump mounted on the top of the motor. Can't tell you how many of them I've seen that we get that have had engine fires, started by that high pressure injection pump springing a leak and finding it's way to an ignition source...

My wife had a 2010 Elantra when we first got together, still have it to this day, only has about 120k on it, and I'm SO glad that it has the previous generation of engines in it without the direct injection. Aside from tire pressure sensor issues, it's never given us a single problem. Have only done routine maintenance (oil changes, spark plugs, timing belt, etc), and although I've never been a fan of any Hyundai or Kia cars, it's a rock solid vehicle in my opinion.

Filled up the gas tank for the first time since my TDT oil change. Consisted of ~2.8 qt M1 TDT 5w-40 + 1 qt M1 HM 5w-20 + ~7oz LiquiMoly mos2 & Wix 51516

270 miles into OCI and negligible oil consumption. Calculated over 29 mpg in mixed driving. Lots of stop and go idling here in Stumptown. Not too shabby.

Finally got around to finishing the spare wheel cover.

It is made out of some leftover 23/32" BC Sanded Pine Plywood which we had purchased to restore our wooden garage door recently.

After sanding all sides, 2 coats of marine paint were applied.

Yesterday:

- Replaced the Cooling Fan Motor. Four Seasons Motor says on it it is made in Canada. Easy job. Works great!

- Cleaned out the Throttle Body while the Air Intake was off.

- Poured in a bottle of Techron Concentrate Fuel System Cleaner in the Gas.

Yesterday - got a nice compliment on my Torrent gauges.

Drove to Grand Rapids with my wife in the late afternoon. It was getting dark so I turned the lights on. She looks over and says, "that red really pops out. It's a pretty color"

Didn't realize how rarely she rides in my car

Sunday night - replaced the rubber boots and pins on the driver side brakes.

Replaced brake pads, drums, rotors and had a brake fluid flush. Also replaced the front Monroe Quick Struts with Moog quick struts. The Monroe's were replaced under warranty about a year/20k miles ago, and already failing. I decided not to bother with their lifetime warranty to only get disappointed again. No more squeaking with the Moog brand.

Well from my other thread "A New SC2" I swapped out the plugs, they definitely were original, swapped out the top motor mount, swapped out the front o2 sensor, changed the oil, swapped out the wires, and sepentine belt. these were all "new" items from my old SC2 that will now be retired. Just a couple of more swap outs, ties rod ends and control arms, and the rear o2 sensor these items were were new also.

Took it on a pre-color tour 500 mile drive on the good Up North roads in Michigan.
How do I know they were good? Because the 15 eco tyres need 39 psi front (cold) to function properly, which makes them essentially solid rubber wheels like the early horseless carriages. I inspected every single crack and bump in the roads and rate them a 9/10 for smoothness
