Default 97 SL2 Man Tran lost 2 4 R gears

I have a 97 SL2 with 50k. I have lost the 2 4 and Rev gears, but can run on 1 3 5.

Also, the shifter feels loose.

What's up?

One or both of the shifter cable hold on clips at the trans have come off.

i concur. sounds like a cable issue. trace those lines carefully to the shift-housing and you will probably find your problem...

hey guy i had the same problem and i found it was one of the shift cable's bracket that broke..so what i did was with my hands make sure the cables were in neutral position, place the part of the bracket that is attached to the cable next to the bracket connected to the tranny and place grip plyers over them clamping down very tight..havent had a problem for 4 months now. i tryed looking for a more permanent fix but after searching the auto parts stores and home depot as well to no avail i gave up....still working great even if it is rigged.....better than buying new cable and bracket!

there is a guy on ebay that sells replacement shifter bushings for our saturns for about $30. the only other way to fix it is to buy new shifter cables from saturn ($120 for the part, plus an hour or so for labor)

search for "saturn stick shift" on ebay to find the product.
